Boehner eyes 'doc fix' breakthrough

The House is inching closer to a major deal on Medicare payments that could help cement a legacy for Speaker John Boehner.

Boehner has spent two months quietly working with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to finally solve a Medicare payment problem that has eluded congressional leaders for more than 20 years.

The House leaders are expected to unveil their $200 billion Medicare deal early next week. Facing little opposition so far, the proposal is bringing Boehner closer than ever to tackling his long-time goal of entitlement reform.

"This could be one of the two or three accomplishments of the 114th Congress," said a GOP leadership aide. "It's a really big deal."

The signature achievement of Boehner is spending $200 billion bailing out the doctor and hospital lobby for supporting ObamaCare. ObamaCare was scored as if the cuts in reimbursement rates would be permanent making it appear ObamaCare would cut the deficit. Why bother voting for these clowns. What reforms did Boehner get in return for this? The article's silence on that is deafening.

The main thing to celebrate here is that Boehner comes out on top. Friend of the working world and protector of all things good. All that matters is that he keeps his power intact and that interests are assuaged. It’s only other peoples’ money, right?

The GOPe is nothing but an arm of the corporate lobby.

Like Obamacare is going to be repealed. LOL

It’s a can’t lose for the hospital lobby.

How about giving those on Medicare the option of making up the difference between the reimbursement rate and the actual rate. Then older Americans could actually get a doctor and the doctors could afford to accept Medicare patients. In Alaska most doctors won’t accept Medicare patients because they would go broke doing so.

I am not worried about this going anywhere. First off, if it is seen as good for the GOP, Reid will kill it in the Senate even if it is his wet dream of a piece of legislation. He can’t bear to have the GOP seen as governing.

Secondly, even if it does Obama will veto it for the sake of revenge on the Republicans for daring to win the last election.

This is where we are at in DC. The dems are so entrenched in protecting the ONE that they don’t even know when they are winning anymore.

I can't imagine that too many could afford to do that.

Why is it that, when the words “Boehner” and “legacy” appear in the same sentence (especially in the context of “Boehner might do something which is permanent, and won’t be undone”), it makes me want to breathe into a paper bag to prevent a panic attack?

Any time I hear the word “Legacy” I grab onto my wallet because you know the political class is going for it to pay for their “Legacy”.

As I understand it the “Doc Fix” is in need of a permanent fix.

I’m not in the anti-Boehner brigade in here, quite the opposite. I think that given the opportunity he’ll run rings around the Democrats in negotiations.

So let’s see how the final bill plays out and whether he gets more than he gives. My bet is that the GOP will come out ahead, partly because Democrats are always looking at the immediate payoff and he’ll be looking for longer term advantages.
