Crew of the Airbus A320 plane made a distress call at 10:47 am (0947 GMT) as the flight from Barcelona to Duesseldorf passed over the French Alps.
The plane then disappeared from radar screens and fell to earth.
Authorities do not know the reason for the crash, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls says.

Sébastien Giroud, owner of saw-works near the crash site in Prads, told our correspondent John Lichfield that he had glimpsed the plane for two or three seconds as it struggled over the village.
“It was very low, only 1,500 or 2,000 metres and it
seemed to be falling. I said to myself: ‘that’s not going to make it over the
mountains. I never heard a thing.”

Hillary Clinton’s campaign just announced that her email server was aboard the Germanwings plane that crashed this morning. A spokeman said that Hillary had decided this weekend to comply with Trey Gowdy’s request, and they had packed up the server and shipped it from Chappaqua to DC via DHL..They have no idea how it ended up on a German charter flight from Barcelona to Dusseldorf, but, to quote the staffer, “everyone knows how airlines lose baggage, so it’s possible.”

Commercial aircraft usually start descent around 20 minutes before expected arrival time. The Flightaware chart shows a steady slope of descent. Flightaware data isn’t perfect, but it’s close.

Just woke up, kind of alarmed, reading about a horrible plane crash, then all of a sudden I’m doubled up with laughter.
Paris (AFP) - Helicopters shuttling - A little aerodrome in Seyne-les-Alpes, usually used as a departure point for gliders, has been transformed into a heliport from where helicopters are shuttling to and from the crash scene, local chemist Françoise Barande tells AFP by telephone.
“Contrary to previous reports, the crew did not send a distress signal, according to AFP.
Civil aviation authorities told the agency: “The crew did not send a Mayday. It was air traffic control that decided to declare the plane was in distress because there was no contact with the crew of the plane.”
So you’re saying they said, a few minutes earlier when the plane was passing into the realm of the Marseille ATC, the plane DID NOT RESPOND?? If that is what was said by someone who actually knows, that does imply the pilots were occupied by something preventing them from speaking.

Germanwings say they are themselves unsure whether the distress call was issued by the plane’s crew or air traffic controllers and have no information on why the aircraft apparently started to descend.

Germanwings holds live press conference
Airline Germanwings is now holding a live press conference on the crash.
It has been confirmed that two babies were among the 150 people on board.
The plane fell into a “deep descent” which lasted eight minutes.
The captain was a pilot who had been flying with Germanwings and Lufthansa for 10 years.
Reuters: Spokeswoman from the German town Haltern am See says there is reason to believe 16 schoolchildren and two teachers were on the plane - but it can’t be confirmed.

The decent was 10 minutes, if the Pilots were in control of the plane I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t make a single call. Therefore I agree decompression, Terrorist flew it into the mountain or third, major electrical taking out systems inc. comm.
