War Veterans: We Miss Dubya
Townhall ^

Posted on 04/11/2015 2:40:31 AM PDT by South40

In a new Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation poll, the majority of Iraq/Afghanistan war veterans miss President George W. Bush. Sixty-five percent called the 43rd president a good commander in chief, whereas only 42 percent felt the same way about Barack Obama.

Even with the Iraq War, half of veterans say it wasn’t worth the fight, but 53 percent still think Bush was a good commander in chief, though when you ask veterans who feel otherwise about the war’s purpose; Bush’s approval hits 80 percent.

Obama keeps cutting and cutting, and expecting to expand the role of the military at the same time. There is only so much cutting that can be done before all the fat is removed, and you’re cutting out muscle.

Too bad no politician can think of doing the same to so many of the civilian federal bureaucracies. Or to the massively inflated welfare rolls.

Or they’re worried their superiors are looking to see what one puts down...

Given that Dubya’s refusal to stop the invasion from “South of the Border”, which has had a personally negative impact on my life, I can’t say I pine for him (ditto my father, a veteran). His non-Conservative policies paved the way for Zero’s coronation.

Probably a more likely explanation.

President Bush was not the best president for a lot of reasons. But I do believe he had great respect for our military. Even in retirement, he has made a number of efforts on behalf of wounded veterans. During his presidency, the military for the most part respected and maybe even loved him.

Sometime, go to You Tube and find speeches made by President Bush and Obama to the military, then compare them. Notice the audience reactions. You can “feel the love” in President Bush's speeches. Obama gets politeness and civility, but that's it.

“Either this poll is skewed, or else they are all Trannies and homos.”

Or they are unwilling to speak poorly of a commanding officer

Some of our best Presidents have been military veterans. Maybe we should add a Constitutional amendment that requires the President to have military experience. I’d vote for that.

I agree he had respect for the military. Just wish he had shown similar respect for citizens rather than illegals.

Jimmy Carter served. Calvin Coolidge didn’t. A military prerequisite is no guarantee of a quality Commander-in-Chief.

I gotta agree. Bush was, and is, a good man. But overall, I must give him a D+ grade as a president. After 9/11, he kept the homeland free from further terrorist attacks. That's no small accomplishment.

But he was a failure with everything else: the deficit, immigration, finishing off Al Qaeda, etc. We conservatives should be spending less time defending his record, and more time trying to learn from his mistakes.

When we're down to nuclear weapons, that leaves us with little choice of what to use against an enemy.

No more Bushes. The fact that Obama is the Worst President in history and an anti-American, anti-Semetic, anti-Christian, anti-white racist and and Jihadi traitor doesn’t make the two Bushes good presidents. THEY and the Clintons destroyed Reagan’s revolution and constituted the worst series of bad presidents in our history.
