Chelsea Clinton Opens Up About Motherhood and Women's Rights
Elle ^ | 4/10/2015 | Rachel Combe

(Chelsea Clinton in a Gucci dress, Mateo New York bracelet, Cartier bracelet, Garland Collection ring, Halleh ring.)

Chelsea Clinton was thoughtful and candid during her conversation with ELLE editor-at-large Rachael Combe for this month's cover story. Their discussion topics ranged from whether she'd like her daughter Charlotte's grandmother to be the first female president of the United States, to the pressures she feels as a woman in a leadership role, to how she influences her parents on topics of national importance such as gay rights, to what it's like riding the subway and going to the grocery store as, well, Chelsea Clinton. She talked passionately about motherhood and her seven-month-old daughter—along with her other baby, the No Ceilings Full Participation Report—and the happy place in which she finds herself, finally writing her own story as a mother, wife, advocate, and, yes, the beloved daughter of two of the most powerful people on the planet.

In her May issue editor's letter, ELLE Editor-in-Chief Robbie Myers writes: "There is something innately regal about Chelsea—a kind of grace that doesn't seem practiced, or trotted out just for public consumption. She's a person of substance for sure, a young woman who, while measured in her manner, has a fierceness of conviction, and a calling to make the world a better place."

No Ceilings is emblematic of the work Chelsea says she felt called to do. It was an idea she and her mother dreamed up together, looking back at the United Nations' World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, where Hillary, then First Lady, made her famous declaration that "human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights." Chelsea says she wanted to use the 20th anniversary of that historic event to provide perspective on the status of women's rights, and last month she was able to do just that as she officially released the No Ceilings Full Participation Report at an event in New York City, alongside her mother and Melinda Gates (The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation joined forces with the No Ceilings initiative of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation to create the report).

Read a preview of what Chelsea had to say below. For the full story, pick up the May issue of ELLE—available digitally and in select cities on April 14, and on newsstands nationwide April 21.

On how life has changed since her daughter Charlotte was born…

ELLE: Is it a big change from before she was born?

CHELSEA CLINTON: Marc and I are like, "What did we do before we were parents?" My whole life is reoriented around my daughter in the most blessed sense. I now understand—this is something else that Marc and I talk about all the time—all of the enthusiastic, bombastically spectacular, wonderful things people say about their children, because we also feel and think all those things about Charlotte—that she is just the most remarkable little bubbly, perfect, chunky monkey creature ever.

On the importance of having a woman president…

ELLE: I was pregnant with my eldest daughter when your mother ran in 2008. I remember feeling that extra intensity you're talking about and being really frustrated when people said that it didn't matter if we had a female president, that it wouldn't make any real change, that it was just symbolic. What do you think?

CC: We've made real progress on legal protections for women, but in no way are women at parity to men in our country in the workplace. And if we look in the political sphere, it is challenging to me that women comprising 20 percent of Congress is treated as a real success. Since when did 20 percent become the definition of equality? And so when you ask about the importance of having a woman president, absolutely it's important, for, yes, symbolic reasons—symbols are important; it is important who and what we choose to elevate, and to celebrate. And one of our core values in this country is that we are the land of equal opportunity, but when equal hasn't yet included gender, there is a fundamental challenge there that, I believe, having our first woman president—whenever that is—will help resolve. And do I think it would make a substantive difference? Yes, we've seen again and again, when women have been in positions of leadership, they have had different degrees of success versus their male counterparts, historically being able to build more consensus so that decisions have longer-term effects, whether in economic investments or in building social capital. Who sits around the table matters. And who sits at the head of the table matters, too.

She cleans up pretty well. There is plenty of substance to disagree with, just leave the ad hominem attacks to the left.

The New York Times Matt Goldstein and Steve Eder wrote an article in The New York Times suggesting that hedge funder Marc Mezvinsky — Chelsea Clinton's hunny —had been able to gain access to investors with ties to the Clintons for the hedge fund he cofounded that has had "underwhelming returns."

About a month ago, The Wall Street Journal published a report about the fund's underperformance since its inception. The Times' report focuses primarily on Mezvinsky and his role in fund-raising and strategizing for the fund.

Back in 2011, Mezvinsky, now 37, and two former Goldman Sachs colleagues — Bennett Grau and Mark Mallon — began raising money for Eaglevale Partners LP. Some of Eaglevale's investors include hedge fund billionaire Marc Lasry and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, the report said.

Lasry, a longtime Clinton friend, runs Avenue Capital, where Chelsea previously worked after graduating from Stanford. Lasry told The Times that he "gave them money because I thought they would make me money."

A Goldman spokesman told The Times that Blankfein invested in Eaglevale because of his relationship with Grau, the fund's chief investment officer. At the DealBook Conference in December, Blankfein, who has been a strong supporter of Democrats in the past, said he had "always been a fan of Hillary Clinton." Hillary is expected to announce her presidential campaign soon. (Excerpt) Read more at businessinsider.com ...

CONT--Chelsea's hubby had access to Clinton connections----even as his hedge fund had "underwhelming returns.

The WSJ reports extensively on the fund's underperformance since its inception.

The NY Times reports on Marc Mezvinsky and his role in fund-raising and strategizing. Back in 2011, Mezvinsky, now 37, and two former Goldman Sachs colleagues — Bennett Grau and Mark Mallon — began raising money for Eaglevale Partners LP. Some of Eaglevale's investors included Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein. Blankfein, a slavish Democrat supporter, said he had "always been a fan of Hillary Clinton."

Oh, wait a sec...that Clinton/Goldman connection sounds awfully familiar. Hillary's close aide, Huma Abedin, reportedly had private email addresses on the Clinton email server system (underlining Democrats' greatest fear: the intersection of undisclosed foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton’s secret email address.

FACTS ON FILE Then-Secy Hillary gave her close aide, Huma Abedin, “State Dept special status".......meaning Abedin was working for Hillary at State....... AND simultaneously working for Bill Clinton, as a private contractor for his company, Teneo Holdings. Read on.

====================================================

Back in Jan 2014, Sen Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) probed Hillary's State Dept aide's employment status...... asking how Huma Abedin got a sweetheart deal as an outside private six-figure consultant while at the State Department.

Abedin held “special government employee” status, and worked a sideline---as a private contractor. One of Huma's clients was Bill Clinton's Company----Teneo Holdings----a dual-track consulting firm that calls itself the “next chapter in strategic advisory.”

============================================

HUMAN EVENTS EXCERPT: A former employee of bankrupt MF Global accused former president Clinton----chairman of Teneo's advisory board----of collecting $50,000 per month through his Teneo advisory firm in the months before MFG careened towards its Halloween filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as hundreds of millions of investor funds disappeared.

Teneo was hired by MF Global’s former CEO Jon S. Corzine (an ex-Goldman Sachser) to improve his image and to enhance his connections with Clinton’s political family, said the employee, who asked that his name be withheld because he feared retribution, according to HE.

The source, who is no longer associated with MF Global, said Teneo is a dual-track company with one side devoted to merchant and investment banking and the other side set up to provide image and strategy consulting services. The Teneo contract with MF Global lasted some five months, the source said. The board cancelled it after Corzine resigned.

The trustee for cheated MFG investors later sued JPMorgan bank for return of about $450M that MFG had wire- transferred out of its accounts to JPM's bank.

==================================================

An earlier NYT's expose tarred Bill Clinton w/ Teneo's sub rosa dealings. Teneo is run by Clinton aide---Doug Band. Prosecutors found Band and Clinton listed in pedophile's Jeffry Epsteiin's records as having a shocking 21 email addresses and tele nos........that L/E recognizes as the MO for money-laundering and tax evasion.

Chelsea's father-in-law, Edward "Ed" Mezvinsky is an ex-Democrat congressman.....and a convicted felon. Ed sat on the House Judiciary Committee that decided the fate of Richard Nixon. He was outspoken saying that Nixon was a crook and a disgrace to politics and the nation and should be impeached.

Edward, a lawyer, was married when he met Chelsea's MIL, Marjorie----they soon got married---but divorced after Edward got conned into several notorious Nigerian-based email financial frauds guaranteed to make you rich.

In his haste to get rich quick, to raise money to get in on these "heaven-sent" investment schemes, Edward defrauded many of his friends and business contacts.....including Marjorie's mother.

Alas, when the Nigerians got their hands on Edwards' money, they did a 23 skidoo. Having failed to come up w/ a ROI, Edward got nabbed by the long arm of the law. Mezvinsky pleaded guilty to 31 of 69 felony counts.. He did hard time----spent 7+ years in a federal prison w/ no chance of parole, and still owes $10 million in restitution.

Democrat Congressman 2014 candidate Marjory Margolies is also no stranger to the dollar disease. Because of her husband's felony convictions, she filed for bankruptcy. But the court would NOT discharge her of her debts, finding that she could NOT explain where some $1 million in assets had vanished, in the previous 4 year span...during Mezvitsky's crime spree.

In their heyday, Ed Mezvinsky and then-wife Marjorie, herself a former Democratic congresswoman from Pennsylvania (an ex-TV reporter---and recent election loser), were part of the political and social elite in Philadelphia.

The Mezvinskys were close to Bill and Hillary Clinton and were frequent guests at the White House. Prosecutors say Mezvinsky exploited his ties to the Clintons, including his son's relationship with Chelsea, to woo investors to contribute more money to the Nigerian schemes.

In an interview with Des Moines Register from prison in 2003, Mezvinsky said he found the notoriously fraudulent Nigerian Black Ink scam "convincing."

"The Nigerian man came out with a chemical, threw it on the money, and it all turned to $100 bills. He gave me 10 to have them tested back home. And they were real," Mezvinsky told a reporter. ///Like father, like son.

It really must be an awful thing to have to be the consort of the Heir Apparent to the evil empire of the two that spawned her nothingness. How many times did she actually appear on the network that paid her hundreds of thousands for her “talent?” If any, were the commentaries ghost written?
