Imagine you're a Cuban who has somehow managed to catch the cablecast of Melissa Harris-Perry's MSNBC show today. The topic is President Obama's opening toward Cuba. You're scraping by on the average Cuban monthly salary of $20/month and are thrilled at the prospect of getting a better-paying job if and when American tourists start coming in numbers.
Then suddenly you hear Harris-Perry fretting that there could be a "downside" for Cuba in letting in those American tourists. They could be a "plague" for Cuba. Impose their cultural "hegemony." !Ay caramba!

Maybe she has a point. A lot of the tourists will be leftists who notoriously exhibit “Ugly Americanism” when they travel abroad.
I don’t thing you’ll see many conservatives travel to Cuber even if it’s legal.
The first time Michael Moore hits the beach in a speedo Cuba will launch an embargo against us.
The interesting feature being how do these creatures get a hearing? Get face time? Some one should investigate the interlocking web of controllers. It may be nothing more than a desire to create controversy, which increases viewers which increases advertising revenue; or it could be more sinister in motive.
Americans have been flying to Cuba via Canada for years now...
It’s called the fatal hug. I hate that Obama did it, and I know he did it solely because he IS literally a communist. But it will still be funny to watch tourists utterly take over, a Senor Frogs and a Hooters on every corner, cameras pointing every direction, sassing the cops,,,, groups of midlife crisis drunk women giving their drunk at the bar mating call, etc etc.
All while surrounded by sad face American communists who are trying to save the culture, and Cuban officials who will be utterly bewildered as to what approach to take. If they crack down, they are going against what the government has created. If they are hands off, they watch helplessly as every communist era rule gets violated.

I walk through one of the biggest tourist areas in NYC every day on the way to and from work every day. American tourists are terrible. Loud, obnoxious, rude (the people who come away from a visit thinking New Yorkers are rude? Those rude people are your fellow tourists). But foreign tourists are just so much worse.

Actually, the honest truth is that Ugly America behavior is not really a leftist trait. They are painfully cautious about trying to kowtow to the local culture and to show how much better it is than the USA. And most conservatives are good travelers too, it being a function of intelligence and interest in where they are.
They classic “ugly American” is the jackass who holds no strong political beliefs, and can be found at front desks of hotels, complaining about everything that isn’t just like the way they love it in Vegas or Atlantic City, or Orlando. They drink to obnoxious excess. They skip anything remotely like a museum. It’s the Carnival Cruise mentality.
But it really isn’t like committed leftist or rightists that give American tourists a bad name.
Of course to the average Cuban, leftist Americans who kowtow to Castro will be looked upon by them as idiots.
I will be home watching the news as I have no desire to go and spend my money there but hopefully President Cruz comes in and stops this nonsense or overturns this crap the communist is doing.
I had the misfortune to watch her show earlier because my dad was watching. The idiot was praising some kid who didn’t want to be tested. Dems want us all dumbed down so no one has the thought to challenge liberal idiocy
