The internal tension in the Arab cities of Shechem (Nablus) and Jenin in Samaria has long been growing and threatening to boil over, as the Palestinian Authority's (PA) leading Fatah faction and its security apparatus clash.
The two cities, which are under full control of the PA as per the 1993 Oslo Accords, in recent days became the scenes of violence between Fatah, which features a "military wing" named the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, and the PA Security Forces.
An exchange of gunfire was reported last Friday at Jenin between armed men, apparently from Fatah, and members of the PA Security Forces who were dispatched to the central intersections of the city.
In recent months gun battles have become frequent in Jenin, and in one particularly serious incident a massive hail of bullets was showered on the PA Security Forces headquarters.
And then on Saturday in the Balata "refugee camp" in Shechem the car of Fayiz Arafat, one of the leading Fatah activists, was set on fire.
Just several days earlier gunshots were fired at the same activist, indicating that he has become a clear target.

I like how the article always uses quotation marks, when referring to refugee “camps”. Now into the third and fourth generation; urban ghetto, or Government housing project, might be better terms.
Hasn’t there been this type of infighting for years though?....Especially when there aren’t fighting Israel at the moment...they seem to always fight each other.
There is an entire neighborhood in Jerusalem that is called a “refugee camp”. UNRWA has a regular office there to dole out checks to the “refugees”. I used to travel everyday through El Aroub, another “camp,” and nobody told me until I was doing that for a year that it was a “camp”. Looked like an ordinary town to me.
Good time to go long on popcorn futures.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some tribal/clanny-type thing with nothing whatever to do with the Randoms.

As long as they’re fighting to their own deaths I’d like to help. Anybody got an address where I can send ammo? It would be a shame to see them fail for lack of something as simple as ammo. Having just gotten their asseshanded to them in Gaza it has seemed to me that the PLO types have been quiet for too long. Sure enough this bunch just wants to get in on the ME festivities.

Just giving the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade something to boast about.
Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. Let’s be fair. Palis do frequently kill each other. But that is not the same thing as regularly killing each other. Their killing habits are eratic, though not sporadic.
