Hillary Clinton Can’t Run for President [how she's unrunning]
Politico ^ | April 22, 2015 | JACK SHAFER

Posted on 04/22/2015 8:37:18 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Thousands have run for president, but only one candidate has ever unrun for the office: Hillary Clinton. Ever since she finally announced her entry into the contest a couple of weeks ago, she has been unrunning with ferocity. First she road-tripped a minivan 1,000 miles from New York to Iowa to … listen.

Listening tours (or sessions) are supposed to add a little fabric softener to a politician’s starchy image, buffing their scaly reptilian exteriors down to kid-leather smoothness. The technique worked for Clinton in New York, where booking upstate listening stops helped her win a Senate seat in 2000. Listening is the epitome of unrunning, allowing a candidate to do nothing at all but remain operational. Today, Clinton is listening in New Hampshire, and a full-time physician has been assigned to her care, lest the pure calm of bland political chitchat turn her life signs negative and she unruns herself to death.

Why is Clinton unrunning? If the race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination were a Little League baseball game, the party would have already recognized Clinton’s insurmountable lead and invoked the mercy rule to give the victory to her. By unrunning, she avoids the intense political debate that would only call attention to her underfunded, unannounced and relatively unknown rivals, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb, Lincoln Chafee and Joe Biden, all of whom are un-unrunning at various paces.

With nine months until the first presidential primary, Clinton can’t afford to actively run for president. Indeed, if she had her druthers, she probably wouldn’t even be unrunning now. She was pressured by the constant press attention about when she was going to announce and the email controversy. That sort of press attention was positive media attention she couldn’t control, and only by announcing could she dial it down. The email controversy was negative media attention she couldn’t control without the attention-deflecting machinery of a campaign. Indeed, she may be the first politician to announce for the presidency in order to decrease attention in her candidacy.

She’s succeeded wildly. Her coffees, roundtables, discussions and “spontaneous” meetings with voters have immersed her campaign into a box of dry ice and slowed it to the lowest metabolic levels. Suspended animation would look vigorous compared to what Clinton is now doing. This is smart. Steady coverage on the inside of newspapers is exactly what she wants. I buy what Team Clinton stalwart Donna Brazile recently told BuzzFeed’s Ruby Cramer about the campaign’s pacing (“There’s a rhythm. She’s starting off like Beethoven, with melodies and chords that people understand. But she’s got to end up like Beyoncé”) except to my ears early Clinton sounds more like a hobbled version of the Beatles’ “Within You Without You” than Beethoven.

Actively running for president at this point would be too politically damaging for Clinton. By actively running, she would have to declare herself for or against the current administration, something she doesn’t want to do until it presents some advantage. By unrunning, she can blend passively into the background, where she can be there but not here. Depending on how suggestible the audience that is listening with her, Clinton unrunning looks like a continuation of the Clinton and Obama legacy without explicitly saying so.

Having gotten what they wished for, an official Clinton candidacy, the press must now cover the Clinton 2016 slow lane the best they can. The press already knows almost everything about her, and she’s not going to voluntarily serve any fresh meat, so reporters and editors will have to go to the freezer and the landfills where her past is stored. That’s one reason behind the press excitement over Peter Schweizer’s Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich. Even if there’s nothing damning in the book, reporters can grind out hundreds of column inches on the subject and make it relevant to the campaign. The only alternative until the campaign awakens from dormancy will be profiles of the 24-year-old staff wizards (I’m sure they exist) who are vitalizing the Clinton campaign. I shudder.

What should ordinarily follow unrunning would be running, but that won’t be possible for Clinton. Until the 2016 campaign boiler room fires up with an identity of its own, she’ll be rerunning her 2008 campaign, necessitating yet another transition in her candidacy. According to POLITICO’s Glenn Thrush, the Clinton campaign plans to spend more time generating calm and less time fighting the press than it did in 2008. We’ve got plenty of time to come up with a snazzy phrase to describe the new, yet-to-be-released Clinton method, but until we come up with a winner, how about “un-rerunning”?

******

Double-unrunning would mean taking an unrunning campaign several gears lower than a silent John Cage composition. Dash to your keyboard and send me emails with definitions of these variations: “triple-unrunning,” “reverse-unrunning,” “bellyfeel running,” and “duckspeak running” (Shafer.Politico@gmail.com). As long as she is breathing, and maybe even if she is not, she has 45 percent locked up. But I really think we can get 52 percent this time if we get Cruz. People’s hearts are empty. They need something to believe in. More than economic reform, military transformation, better pay, although all those things are tremendously important, they need their souls filled, and it’s been a long time, 35 years since someone’s’ filled the souls of Americans, it’s time again. CRUZ WONT LOSE

Maybe the media doesn't realize that Hillary is just brilliantly modeling her campaign after how Kim Jong Un presents himself to his people.

After all, she is still a "young 'un" compared to other Democrat leaders such as Biden, Kerry, Pelosi, Reid, or Jesse.

This campaign was never about winning the election. It was always intended to raise as much $$$ as possible for the Grifter Duo and their barnacles.

I hope they get the nomination, I really do. They don’t really want to win and sending them off with $2.5B ends it cheap.

This actually makes some sense to me. This is insightful. She is letting the press campaign for her. Her strategy is to stay out of the way. All she has to do is focus on getting voters to the polls. This actually fits perfectly into my numbers theory. Now that over 50% of the inhabitants of the US (legal and illegal) CAN vote, AND are in some way dependent on the federal government for at least a portion of their livelihood, they just need to get enough people to the poles. HILLARY WILL WIN if conservatives stay home in protest of another RINO candidate. I will be one of those who will not vote for a Jeb Bush or Mit Romney or John McCain or maybe even Rubio (Hate the immigration position). I have changed since the last election. IF not a Reagan like conservative, I am OK with Hillary enslaving more of the population and running this country broke. At some point, I hope, we need to start rebuilding. And it will take something extreme. Either a rock solid, ruthless, Constitutional and Patriotic conservative President or another revolution.

Flame away.

Yes. That's exactly what she is doing.

Hillary Clinton is a one person criminal enterprise that 90% of the American media supports and will cover for at the expense of their own credibility.

Hillary's prez effort was never about winning the 2016 election. It was always intended to raise as much $$$ as possible for the Grifter Duo......

Could not agree more. Someone posted that Rush claimed she can’t drop out b/c “foundation” donations will dry up?

Sounds right to me.

CLINTONS' SIGNALLING FOUNDATION DONORS Hillary's strange video rollout (likened to a bizarre politically-correct Beneton ad), her unmarked black van w/ tinted windows, w/ only Huma in attendance, the video stop at Chipotle, the staged listening sessions w/ hand-picked Dem operatives....

....all of that is political messaging....targeted to Clinton foundation donors---to reassure them it won't be long til she wields the presidential pen....when they'll all get payback w/ plenty of interest.

It has nothing to do w/ voters....prolly the Clintons' vote fraud machine is already counting the winning votes.

The rallying cry for onetime Secy of State Hillary's bid for the WH?..... "Time to hijack another US agency.....the US Treasury."

It helps to be able to "think" like the Clintons---which is not easy---b/c they are cunning criminals---practiced con artists salivating to get their greedy hands on the US Treasury.

You'd think the Clintons would be satisfied w/ the money-spewing Clinton Foundation and their pricey real estate----PLUS holdings they dont let us peons know about:

(1) The missing State Dept $6 billion, (2) her brother's Haitian gold mine permit, (3) the gold Obama and Hillary got from invading Quadaffi....including (4) money secreted in numbered offshore bank accounts,(5) investment holdings, (6) safe deposit boxes holding coins, gold, valuables, etc, (7) other holdings in real estate, businesses, (8) passive income from rentals, interest accrued, investments, etc .....

===============================================

The two leeches didn't have a pot to *** in back in Arkansas---didn't even own a home. But they are experts at gaming the "public service" system for themselves. The Clintons' conniving has enriched them. They are now worth hundreds of millions of dollars.....and counting.

My guess is Billy heard that one foreign leader ripped off his govt for $82 Billion----not to be outdone, Bill's trying to top that.

Ted Cruz fits the bill.

Agreed. At this point, he is my #1. Also at this point, I might settle for Scott Walker.

Yeah. Arrived at the White House from Arkansas with a U-Haul van. Left using a couple of United Van Lines.

My number one choice if Ted Cruz but the MSM are pushing Jeb Bush and Scott Walker. Walker would be okay but something just doesn’t jibe with me. Don’t know why. BTW no more Bushs.

.... I still think that Hillary running for President is nothing more than Cannon Fodder and a diversionary decoy tactic to keep the Conservative talking heads and politicians busy and to drain money from the GOP candidates election funds.

.... In the mean time ..... the real intended candidates, such as Martin O’Malley et-al, will walk through the media gauntlet relatively unscathed and un-noticed and gain popularity amongst Democrat voters as viable alternatives to the usual tired old candidates at the appointed time.

..... And if I am wrong .... Hillary won't have much to worry about since the Democrat Base of 43% of voters will still turn out to vote for her.

Poor ole Hillary! Still trying to be relevant by pretending to be “one of the great unwashed” with her little chats with them. Truth is most of them travel with her and she can’t get a crowd to show up for one of her little tete-a-tetes.

This is just wishful thinking. The millions of fools who voted for Obama are lining up to vote for the Hildabeast. I guarantee it.

No flames here, I agree with you. If the choice is between Hitlery and Jeb, or Hitlery and some other RINO, I would rather have Hitlery. At least we know she is going to shaft us. The others will pretend to be on our side until the chips are down, THEN they will shaft us. Eff the GOP

From the Donna Brazile quote:

“She’s starting off like Beethoven, with melodies and chords that people understand. But she’s got to end up like Beyoncé”

Either she’s never heard Hillary screech, or she’s got Beethoven confused with the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and Beyonce confused with Gilbert Gottfried.
