Ted Cruz knocks Scott Walker on immigration
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/24/2015 | Drucker

Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday took a shot at rival presidential contender Scott Walker for comments the Wisconsin governor has made regarding immigration policy.

Cruz opposes comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for the estimated 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. But the Texan is a big proponent of legal immigration and making adjustments to U.S. law that would facilitate more legal immigration. He criticized Walker for suggesting that he supported limiting legal immigration if it has a negative impact on the wages of American workers.

"There is considerable bipartisan agreement outside of Washington that we need to improve and streamline legal immigration so that we can remain a nation that welcomes and celebrates legal immigrants," Cruz said in an interview with the Washington Examiner during a brief campaign swing through Las Vegas.after cost estimates came in higher than anticipated.

I think it is a mistake for any politician to on the one hand embrace amnesty, embrace a pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally, and on the other hand seek to restrict or punish legal immigrants," Cruz continued. "I am the son of an immigrant who came legally from Cuba. [President Ronald] Reagan referred to legal immigrants as Americans by choice and there is no stronger advocate of legal immigration in the U.S. Senate than I am."

"I think the right approach is to secure the border, follow the rule of law and embrace and improve legal immigration," Cruz said.

Walker has conceded a change of heart on immigration policy as he gears up to launch a 2016 presidential bid. The governor, 47, previously supported a pathway to legal status for illegal immigrants. Now he is opposed. Supporting a pathway to legalization or citizenship could be problematic for a Republican candidate seeking his party's White House nomination.

But in a recent interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, Walker appeared to move farther to the right on immigration than even amnesty hawks like Cruz. Here's what Walker said, as reported by Breitbart. (read more)

I can Sen. Cruz thinks Walker’s position is solely politically motivated - I think Cruz wants to reveal that.

Here is a 10 minute speech by Cruz in front of congress when he was trying to push his increase for H1B workers in the STEM (science) fields.

He gives LOTS of figures and studies regarding the lack of workers for those jobs (1.9 jobs for every 1 worker), number of immigrants that are owners/part owners of STEM companies ($4.2 trillion worth), keeping skilled college graduates here rather than sending them back, etc.

It produces economic growth.

You bet.

America does not need any more immigration at this point. We need a 10 year immigration moratorium.

After 10 years, we can then reevaluate our needs.

Kabar, Walker is a liar.

You’re spinning. It’s not working!

You don’t know what Walker’s policy is on anything, because he lies.

Why are you selling your soul to pimp for a know liar, that is pushing the GOPe and Chamber of Commerce illegal immigration polices?

Why are you playing the part of a Democrat voter here, who doesn’t care if he’s lied to, and will vote for the guy anyway?

Legal immigration has electoral consequences. Immigrants vote two to one Democrat. 87% of legal immigrants are minorities as defined by the USG. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under will be minorities and by 2044 non-Hispanic whites will be a minority. The Dems see immigration, legal and illegal, as a way to make them the permanent majority party. Demography is destiny.

Not a good move on Cruz’s part. How many tens of millions does he intend to import? If we import 100,000,000 Chinese, we could get wages down to $1.25/hour, right? That would make the Chamber of Corruption happy. But I don’t want to see the country given away nor do I want to see a permanent Dim majority.

Cruz is terribly wrong on this issue.

I don’t know if Walker is sincere about reducing the number of legal immigrants and, if so, will stick with his guns on this. I certainly hope he does, however. This is an issue that can move me from Cruz to Walker. Immigration, both illegal and legal, is the most important issue facing our country.

On my mother’s side, it goes all the way back to the at least 1700s.

My fathers also, but that was earler generations from Germany.

They came first way back in the 1700s, before the Revolutionary war and settled York Co. PA .

Yes indeed, we, my family helped settle York Co. PA....

But later ? directly ?

My great grand parents came from Gernmay around 1900.

We even got sons of the patriots in our family as the mother’s of the patriots society...

All I see from Walker on this issue is that his advisers have had him put forth a plan to project a certain perception about Cruz policies on immigration.

Ted Cruz will handle this.

This is straight from the GOPe. These are the GOPe talking points.

Their boy got caught lying, and now it’s over for him.

Kabar, why are you here?

You back a guy that lies to you.

You trash a guy that is honest.

You don’t care if Walker will let illegals stay.

What the hell is wrong with you?

Why are you here? Conservatives don’t back liars or people who side with illegal immigrants.

Walker does both.

Is immigration supposed to be endless and forever, until there is nothing left of us?

Already we are destroyed, the first 200 years of America is erased, now we are just a land mass that receives the world’s global population by the millions.

Today we are just a place to make money and keep your head low, what used to be America is almost totally gone except in smaller communities in the inner regions, and they are being rapidly flooded with exotic foreigners of all types.

As the older Americans die off, the first 200 years, and what made America great, and why it was special, will be erased, and buried.

Most of the third-world immigration that turned California into a one-party state was “Legal”.

Are you aware that the White Populace in the U. S. school system is presently below 50%?

I'm really curious how you think the Hispanic slice of the pie is going to diminish.

Not a good move on Cruz’s part.
**********
Right now, it’s really not about immigration... it’s politics. Walker tried to move to Cruz’s right. Cruz reacts by thinking “bs- Walker will never limit legal immigration”- and so Cruz is now going to try to make Walker back pedal, and thereby, undercut his credibility. We’ll see what happens.

Cruz is terribly wrong on this issue.

I agree.

The last thing America needs is more immigration, legal or illegal.

A 10-year moratorium on all immigration is the only thing needed.

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

Mr. Cruz said recent polling indicated that people outside Washington support some reform, including legal status without citizenship. He said he was against naturalization because it rewarded lawbreakers and was unfair to legal immigrants. It also perpetuates illegal crossings, he added.”

Illegals are crossing the border to steal jobs and welfare depending on circumstance. Cruz is wrong if he believes illegals will stop crossing if they can’t vote officially.

Illegal immigration is not substantive? That's your stance? Who is feeding you these lines? Kabar, seriously, that's just nonsense.

Of course illegal immigration is substantive. Every politician is against it, left and right. Obama and McCain are against amnesty. They just redefine what amnesty means. No politician supports mass deportation. But the alternative is not a blanket amnesty. We had a one-time amnesty in 1986. When you reward something, you get more of it.

You are acting as if it's wrong to take a guy to task for lying about the number one issue facing our nation. I'm not being unfair to Walker.

I said I get it. He is a liar just like every other politician. They are evolving is the way they describe it. I am very happy that at least one politician has the guts to talk about the elephant in the room, legal immigration. The corporate, media, and political elites will go into overdrive to squash Walker. Jeff Sessions has paid a heavy price. Yet, the American people agree with Walker and Sessions. In fact, Sessions ran unopposed last year.

No they didn't. They used to attack people who held the views Walker doesn't really hold. No offense, but you are really confused here.

As someone who was lobbying on the Hill against the McCain-Kennedy bill as well as the Hagel-Martinez amnestys, and I followed McCain driving over a thousand miles during the primaries protesting against his position, you respectfully, don't have a clue what you are talking about. Anyone who talks about reducing legal immigration is attacked from the Left and the Right.

“The people that are legally coming here have taken to a long, difficult, and expensive effort to become American citizens, and they are in no way the problem.”

You’re kidding, right?

Our community has all kind of legal immigrants let in under various programs who are living in subsidized housing, are on food stamps and other public assistance. Many are Africans let in on lottery or refugee statuses. They have few if any job skills and are a drag on the economy. Maybe you’re thinking of the great contributions of the Somalis, who have produced a lot of jihadis here in the states? Or the swarms of mohammedans that are being allowed in (little Dearbornistans popping up around the country)?

A Fox News report in 2013 said:

“Recent studies show welfare spending on immigrant-headed households is relatively high. A Center for Immigration Studies report found that 36 percent of these households were using “at least one major welfare program” in 2010 — compared with 23 percent of other households.

“Sessions’ office says the number of non-citizens on food stamps has skyrocketed in recent years. And the conservative Heritage Foundation claims low-skill immigrant households take in roughly $20,000 more in government benefits every year than they pay in taxes.”

How many legal immigrants do we need to import until you think we have enough?
