President Obama has reached Reagan-like levels of popularity in the twilight of his tenure, but analysts say his bounce can be attributed largely to the fact that he is fading into the political background as the next presidential race kicks into high gear and as Congress claims a surprising number of concrete legislative accomplishments.
Mr. Obamas job approval rating stands at 46.4 percent, his highest mark in nearly two years, according to a recent Gallup survey. The figure puts him in the company of President Reagan, whose approval rating also hovered around 46 percent at the same point in his presidency.
Mr. Obama is far above President Bush, whose rating sunk to 35 percent during his 25th quarter in office. But Mr. Obama trails President Clinton, who held 64 percent approval ratings at this point in his term.
Political analysts attribute Mr. Obamas bounce to a number of factors, including positive economic signs, low gas prices and, to some degree, diplomatic outreach efforts such as the reboot with communist Cuba.
But the most significant factor may be that the president increasingly is becoming something of an afterthought in Washington, with candidates to succeed him taking center stage and Congress racking up a number of high-profile bipartisan achievements, said Lara Brown, a political science professor at George Washington University.
All of the anger and intensity around what the president should do or shouldnt do starts to actually fade, partly because the expectations for the president to do things start to go down, she said. People start to perceive him as a lame duck and they stop expecting him to do things and then theyre not as hypercritical. The other piece is that actually the Senate is getting things done, the Congress is passing some legislation and the president signing some legislation.

I call BS.
analysts say his bounce.......can be attributed largely...... to the fact that he is fading into the political background....and the MEDIA isnt covering JACK but the current political shenanigans...
Gallop is quite liberal.
BULL Sperm... managed polls get managed results..
I don’t believe it...
Like every word out of his mouth the opposite is true..
AND his drones... as well..
I agree.
BS is right.
Obama isn’t fit to shine Ronald Reagan’s shoes.
The same polls which stated Bibi would lose big or the Dems would be keeping Congress.
Yep I call it B/S
Baloney. What little popularity he does have can be attributed to liberal media bias. Bush had the media pounding on him from day 1 to his last day in office without let up. Obama has gotten more favorable coverage as well as cover for his more scandalous words and activities.
First thing to do, is to compare the polls.
By playing cutesy games with categories and questions they can make statistics into “damned lies.” When called on this they will of course cry about free speech, but equally free is the speech that shows them to be blasted liars.
In what universe, I am prompted to ask.
I call BS. X 100.
The difference is the Men Seeking Men media did everything it could to keep Reagan’s popularity rating down by sensationalizing even the slightest bad news while it is doing everything it can to prop up Obola’s ratings by ignoring or downplaying anything negative.
what economic boom?
Was the 1st qtr GDP growth 0%?
BUMP!
“Congress claims a surprising number of concrete legislative accomplishments. “
The author is certifiable.
47%?
Exactly! We’ve got two grandkids that are educated and have common sense and level heads, neither can find a decent job even at entry level.
I second the bump to lowbridge!
