Moments ago according to the native Twitter feed of Arabiya, Iranian forces have seized a US cargo ship, which has some 34 American sailors, which they have taken to the port of Bandar Abbas.

Maritime law and flags of convenience do not necessarily make this a Marshall Islands problem. The Marshall Islands are like Liberia and Panama; they are centers for flag of convenience registration, so it is in no way unusual for Danish Meaersk to use it.
If only the ship is allowed to do justice to it’s namesake.
OK, I was thinking the flag would be the determining factor in a maritime altercation, otherwise what are flags for??
Flags of convenience are often used to avoid burdensome regulations and expenses.

Flag would enter into it in case of maritime law. Maritime law is not normally military defense. Marshall Islands is a sovereign country for maritime law, should such a case be brought. Flags of convenience are for the purpose of dodging taxes and regulations. Marshall Islands, Liberia and Panama are centers for this.
