'Assault weapons' debate: The folly of Rep. Rosa DeLauro's buyback bill
Fox News ^ | April 30, 2015 | John R Lott Jr

Posted on 04/30/2015 12:32:05 PM PDT by richardb72

Gun control advocates introduced a bill in April that only gun control supporters could love. Connecticut Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro is so serious about getting so-called assault weapons off the street that she is offering $2,000 tax credits for each gun that people turning in limit one per year.

According to her, assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense. There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield.

She believes that offering $2,000 a gun will ensure guns will be turned in. She is correct that people would turn in guns, that is old, non-working guns or guns bought cheaply and then make a profit turning them in. After all, many brand new assault weapons sell for less than $700.

Gaming the gun buyback system has pretty much become standard fare these days. There are also plenty of stories featuring people buying BB guns from a nearby Walmart and turning them in.

A better name for the "Support Assault Firearm Elimination and Education of our (SAFER) Streets Act would be the "Full Employment Act for Gun Makers." . . .

Whether it “works” or not is of no consequence.
She’s “a good person” for “wanting to do something”.

To quote the 2012 presidential candidate for the GOP, Mitt Romney: “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Let’s just call “gun buybacks” what they really are: welfare for gun owners :)

I like this proposal, I like it a lot. I calculate that with one AR-15 I could turn that gun into 32 guns in 5 years time, for the cost of nothing. What’s not to love. But then again there is always a catch in something too good to be true.

God save us from “good people” who “want to do something”.

(And also from all the young people who want to “make a difference.”)

Assuming she actually believes what she said, why is she not clamoring to take these types of weapons away from the police?

Is she ADMITTING that she wants the police to be able to "kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible"?

Seeking their own salvation through their works, or in the case of liberals, not even works, but advocacy.

Humans are hardwired with a sense of eternity,
and want it to be a positive one.

...and from people who say we must “think of the children!”.

and from people who say: “...and if it saves even ONE life, it will be worth it.”

"The civilian version of the AK-47 is similar, though it fires a much larger bullet 30 inches in diameter, as opposed to the .223 inch rounds used by the AR-15."

I've never seen an AK that could fire a 30-inch bullet, never mind met anyone who could shoulder one. (Yes, I know they mean .30 inch.)

Fox needs an editor with better eyesight or new glasses.

Meanwhile, "Gun buybacks are one of the most ineffectual public policies that have ever been invented."

I wish one of these AH’s could point to the amendment which says guns are only for self defense and for recreation.

Well at least she knows what assault weapons are used for. What she does not know or admit is that people like her are the reason we need them.

The framers were well aware that many people like her with ambitions like hers would seek power over others so they added the 2nd amendment to the near top of the list as the ultimate defense of freedom.

The government has already stepped way over the line on the second amendment. The American people should posses the same weapons that does or military troops. Full automatic assault rifles and associated weapons and equipment.

We need to counter people like her with organizing to repeal the NFA and all federal gun laws. They are all forbidden by the constitution.

The nice thing about Rosa DeLauro is that you can tell something ain't right just by looking at her.

I mean, really?

Holy Shiite, a 30 incher. Haven’t seen anything that large since my Navy days.

I’d hate to run into the Dude that carries one of those around for recreational shooting. :)
