Fishermen fear looming cost of at-sea monitors this summer
Monterey Herald ^ | 05/03/15 | Patrick Whittle

New England fishermen of important food species like cod and haddock say the looming cost of paying for at-sea monitors could put them out of business this year.

Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service said the money it had been using to pay for the monitors — trained workers who collect data on fishing trips — will be needed for other obligations. That means groundfishermen who catch fish like cod, haddock and pollock in New England waters will likely have to start paying the cost around August.

The new expense is coming at a time when it could cripple the fishery, fishermen said. Paying for at-sea monitors can cost fishermen about $800 per trip, which can be nearly half the gross profit of a good haul, they said.

Oh ya. Good point. Maybe it’s all on the backside and I have only been printing it one-sided. I will print it double-sided and see if it shows up there.

Hmmmm. Nope, not there either.

But a few frogmarched off in cuffs to federal prison will cure that!

Dream on, but remember that Corzine is still a free man. Only peons get frogmarched into jail.

As we've found out via Clinton Cash, and the lack of verification for credit card money in the 2008 Obama campaign, a lot of the campaign money is already anonymous, at least as far as you and I and the FEC is concerned.

There is no way for big money to be anonymous to the candidate. They are always told when the big checks are coming, from who, and when they arrive and clear. They need to know who to thank, and how to thank them.

All a law about anonymous political contributions would do is to legalize everything Hillary did as noted in the book 'Clinton Cash'. It would put a public 'for sale to highest bidder' on the White House front lawn, to replace the hidden one tattooed on Hillary's butt.

Political contributions are a form of free speech.

I prefer freedom to say who I supported financially.

And I darn sure don't see anything in Art 1, Sec 8 of the Constitution authorizing the feds to regulate this.

Notice that the biggest beneficiary of agriculture subsidies has been big agribusiness. While the Left likes to bash crony capitalism, and makes the Koch Brothers into Emmanuel Goldstein, they are the biggest pushers of crony capitalism. These are the true Fascists, which are just one step from the socialists/communists.

You’re right, but he’s not on the GOPe’s 2016 General Election Menu. We’re getting another Bush, I fear.

Makes perfect sense in a rational, sane and uncorrupted world. And that’s precisely why it’ll never happen.

I sure hope not. Granted, I live in a conservative area, but I haven’t heard of anyone around me who is voting for Bush. I try to listen to local Talk radio to hear what callers are saying and I don’t hear support for Bush or Rubio. There’s an occasional Paul supporter, but most people here are Cruz supporters.

Notes on future amendments:

THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren’t only equal
before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter
than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was
stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the
211th, 212th, and 213 th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing
vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

And they’re in charge. The subsidies will not end; they’re like heroin and worse to agribusiness.

Same here. But like in 2008 and 2012, the GOPe Menu is “what’s for dinner”, and those failed miserably. God help America if we get another one, like Bush or Rubio. They’ll just be a slower national death than Hitlery would be.
