Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press, after host Chuck Todd detailed a 1965 report on the African-America family written by then Assistant Secretary of Labor Daniel Patrick Moynihan, former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw said he was right we need to spend money to rebuild inner cites the way the Marshall Plan did in Europe after World War II.

I like the old Bob Grant plan, myself. Free case of gin each month you’re not pregnant.
So we have already in effect done the “Marshall Plan” for the cities. And here we are 50 years later, and inner cities are in the same sad conditions as before.
Could it be that money alone won’t solve these problems?
Slightly off topic, but Baltimore has the same problems in their schools as all big cities. But I heard that Baltimore spends much more per capita than the national average on education.
So, if we pick on an area such as schools to improve in the inner city, where some cities already spend much more than average, what would more money really do in such cases????
he problem with the Black inner cities is first and foremost a moral/cultural one. No plan to throw money at cities can succeed until the moral problem is fixed.
but liberals consider it racist to talk about ghetto issues such as the baby mama culture, the gang/drug culture, ghetto culture. Since it’s racist to discuss some of the moral/cultural failures, then that’s the end of discussion, and anyone who says anything is racist. That seems to be where we are at.
A 'Marshall Plan' that involves: a. Less welfare (and dependency)
b. More jobs (and opportunity)
I.e. More Capitalism, More Freedom. Less Socialism.
I tried to explain that to my co-worker and that the real problem is the breakdown of the family, not money. It’s a moral/spiritual problem. Of course she blamed lead poisoning and how that diminished his career choices.
They're catastrophically wrong. So wrong it has to be deliberate.
Why not your Dad?
Yeah Tom, the object of the Marshall Plan was to enable two very capable nations, Japan and Germany; the ability to transition to a booming peace economy.
Our African American cities resemble this situation, how?
Every “inner” city is run by democrats. Thus there should be nothing wrong with any of them. They are already in perfect hands.
What’s that you say?
The War on Poverty gave us the Thugiest Generation, Tommie boy.
What is needed is a comprehensive plan to bring back a balanced economy, i.e. manufacturing jobs and decent wages.
I think this country needs to pull back globally, put the Army on our southern border and close it, pull out of of the WTO, G8 and whatever else to concentrate on our own country.
Promote Capitalism and growth in our own hemisphere and let China do without out Dollars. Hell just strategically default on all debt outside the country and let the Chinese use their Treasury bonds for toilet paper.
Because 22 trillion clearly isn’t enough. Maybe 44 trillion will to the trick. Yeah...because the first 22 trillion has worked so well. /s
“According to Christopher DeMuth, the Model Cities program received just under $3 billion by the end of 1974, and was “the most unequivocal failure of all the ‘Great Society’ programs”

So lazy, angry, uneducated, people who despise authority want more money to solve all their problems?
yeah....ok....
How do you know he doesn’t have one?
Great idea, Tom. Don’t you think we could work wonders if we had a government program that made sure all pre-school kids get the same headstart as the white privilege kids? Hey, we could call the program: Head Start.
And for the older kids who’ve fallen behind due to white racism, we could have another program to teach and catch up those kids and get them ready for good paying jobs. We could call that program: the Job Corps. Has a good, catchy sound to it.
And, we could also have great programs to improve education like: Goals 2000, er, better make that Goals 2025. And that could be followed up with a No Child Left Behind program to rescue any kids who might have somehow slipped through all the great government programs that would have already solved most all our problems.
Sending more money down leftist ratholes won’t solve anything. Urban areas need liberty and free market capitalism. Something the left hates.
Shhhhhhhhhhhh. Let's keep that (truth) down. We wouldn't want to disturb all the conservative elites who believe bad schools and bad Dem governments keep them down. The truth that black people keep themselves down must be kept a secret. Too many heads might explode otherwise.
This administration, even more than others, doesn’t want this solve...they want more and more trouble. That’s their objective - not peace and prosperity.
