Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” after host Chuck Todd detailed a 1965 report on the African-America family written by then Assistant Secretary of Labor Daniel Patrick Moynihan, former NBC “Nightly News” anchor Tom Brokaw said he was right we need to spend money to rebuild inner cites the way the Marshall Plan did in Europe after World War II.

It’s just incredible that we are now at the 50th anniversary of many programs which were to solve the problems of disparate outcomes. And after fifty years of those original programs and many added on in the interim, the problems persist and all we hear is the need for even more programs - and more spending - to solve the same problems which have in some ways gotten worse depspite fifty years of government programs.

We do not need government buildings and services in the cities - more than what we already have. We need a change in the culture of the cities and if that does not change - from the people - forgetaboutit. Build more prisons.
