Baltimore Rally: Burn Down Stores to Get Them ‘Out of Our Communities’

During a large rally in front of Baltimore’s City Hall, a young man introduced as “Brother Rose,” in winding and sometimes incoherent speech, praised the burning of a CVS store at the corner of Pennsylvania and North Avenues. “America didn’t care until we started affecting things they profit from… What we saying, ‘Let’s get you out of our communities.’”

He also said, “Without us running (unintelligible) Mondawmin Mall [the site of mass looting on Monday], taking back from the stores that have taken our dollars for how long, and not giving back to the community in any type of way. We made a statement. The world heard us then. They heard that the youth of Baltimore are going to get justice by any means necessary.”(continued)

Then he will bitch about “food desserts” or some other drivel.

Aw, I'm sure there will be plenty of stores to fill the need. Wonderful stores to make Charm City proud!

And I should add: This problem is just as crippling for black-owned/run businesses as it is for any businessman of any other race.

They are trying to make a living, and a mob comes by, throws chairs through the windows (if you haven’t already had the additional expenditure of bars or a barrier) and your store gets looted, your problems are just starting.

If you were hardworking enough to have made it this far as a black businessman in a black neighborhood, you may have insurance, and when you apply for relief, you may get it.

But when your policy is up for renewal...your premium is likely going to go up as well. If you don’t simply fold, and move forward your battle isn’t over.

If you add the increased cost of your insurance onto your products, you are going to have Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Barack Obama and other race-baiters disparaging the store owner, standing out front and saying: “The products in this store are more expensive than those in white neighborhoods! Why our own people gouge us for the basic necessities of life is a crying shame!”

And that is what might happen if the owner was black. If the owner was white, hispanic or asian, they might have a riot and destroy the store right there.

Generally the professional black subclass included those that had fled Baltimore city and educated them selves. A woman that had successfully fled repulsed the advances of a former lover that went to prison while she went to college.

I’m not saying that they can’t prosper, only that for the most part they haven’t. Ethiopia is probably the best that the continent of Africa has to offer, but their GDP is lower than Haiti. In both cases, I think that they have been oppressed because of the religions practiced by much of their populations. Those countries in Africa that have made progress are those who were influenced by colonization. It’s just a fact.

In the U.S., despite having a much higher standard of living overall, Black communities are devastated by liberal politics and social programs that have broken down their family structure and robbed them of the dignity of working and making their own living. Those that have moved out of liberal dominated areas and managed to keep families together have done very well.

I’m not arguing that race is the problem. In Africa the influence of non Christian religions is the culprit. In the U.S., it’s liberal policies and social programs. Point out a city in the U.S. that is run by Black liberals that is doing well. I can’t think of a single one, certainly not the city of Baltimore that is the subject of this thread.

I would warn you be careful how you focus your attitude. You looked like you were starting to despise the black people.

And despising them is largely how this problem happened. The first chattel slavery case in North America was by a BLACK (not a white) slave owner. Hardly an auspicious way to get the institution in the door! But Satan accepted it and the white people compromised with Satan in the wake of it.

We should have expected “Christian” morality out of them from the first. As GWB put it, the problem is the soft bigotry of low expectations.

We hear whining and moaning that people in those ravaged communities can’t get access to basic services, can’t get stores to buy food at, can’t get a cab to take them home because it is too dangerous for the cabbies. And they decry the people who left to survive as “racists” and characterize their leaving as racially based “white flight”.

That's why I think its so important to pay attention to the changing attitudes of Detroit. There are some major opportunities there for smart republicans to capitalize on.

A few days ago I was watching some kind of town hall meeting with the police chief about Baltimore and the fiscal disaster coming to the city. One woman said she used to complain about white flight but says that after 50 years it just doesn't matter anymore. She and others said that they need black owned businesses to open but any business was more important than one owned by their own race. Basically it came down to admitting their own guilt and looking at ways to create a welcoming environment for business in their own neighborhoods starting in their homes.

Its important to note that Detroit residents have embraced school choice and are abandoning the traditional public schools at an ever increasing rate.

While the billionaires are dumping truckloads of cash downtown, the real important change seems to be taking place in the neighborhoods and Chief Craig appears to be the catalyst for a lot of it. He had some interesting things to say on CNN this morning.

I am one of those that wrote off Detroit, but I think your outlook is more constructive.

What I despise are people of any race who don’t work to earn their daily bread and have an entitilement mentality. I have a few in my own family. I also have close black friends who are members of my church and coworkers. If you have read my posts, you know that I frequently praise Blacks who speak the truth. I am fortunate to know a few personally and always applaud those who have a public platform to speak out.

I have noticed the same when I was in college in Newark, NJ. The Nigerian students had complete disdain for the urban black culture. Very conservative, devout Anglican Christians (NOT ECUSA!).

Obviously there are some real problems but I get the impression that the people are really trying to prove themselves to be above what is going on.

One of the suggestions I liked was to reach out to businesses fleeing Ferguson and Baltimore and encouraging them to come to their neighborhoods. One pastor further suggested encouraging the congregations to frequent those businesses to help them get on their feet.

For the record, I lost my mother before I was two years old. The lady who raised me is Black and one of the finest people I have ever known. I had only Black playmates until I went to school at age five. The race card doesn’t work with me.

A reasonable social consensus no longer exists. America is very divided and segregated physically, racially, politically and psychologically. It will only get worse.

I must agree with you. Over many years I've lived in a few major cities...NYC, Boston, Miami (to mention a few).

I now live in a very small town in SW Colorado (23 years).

Ain't never goin' back.
