The sun is now virtually blank during the weakest solar cycle in more than a century

The sun is almost completely blank. The main driver of all weather and climate, the entity which occupies 99.86% of all of the mass in our solar system, the great ball of fire in the sky has gone quiet again during what is likely to be the weakest sunspot cycle in more than a century. The sun's X-ray output has flatlined in recent days and NOAA forecasters estimate a scant 1% chance of strong flares in the next 24 hours. Not since cycle 14 peaked in February 1906 has there been a solar cycle with fewer sunspots. We are currently more than six years into Solar Cycle 24 and the current nearly blank sun may signal the end of the solar maximum phase. Solar cycle 24 began after an unusually deep solar minimum that lasted from 2007 to 2009 which included more spotless days on the sun compared to any minimum in almost a century.

24 hours? What kind of solar science do these guys practice? Last week, last month, there were numerous spots and CMEs, some M and X class flares in the past few months.

Not to say this cycle isn’t weak, but the frame of reference has to be a little longer than 24 hours.

The Center for Sun-Climate Research at the DNSC (Danish National Space Center) investigates the connection between variations in the intensity of cosmic rays and climatic changes on Earth. This field of research has been given the name 'cosmoclimatology'"..."Cosmic ray intensities – and therefore cloudiness – keep changing because the Sun's magnetic field varies in its ability to repel cosmic rays coming from the Galaxy, before they can reach the Earth." :

Looks like another crappy Winter for the Northern climes again next year. I think I’ll go shopping for a new snowblower. Or move to Tennessee.

Soon we will not hear about Gorebull Warming.

The new buzz words from the mediots will be Climate Change!

The same evil Americans who caused Gorebull Warming will be the cause of Climate change, aka freezing our butts!

“...accelerated to almost light speed by distant supernova explosions...”

Would we ever be able to detect particles moving faster than the SOL?

Yeah...that's the downside. The skip won't be rollin' like it used to. Oh well...just up the wattage right? Now where did I put that old Texas Star?

73's back at ya. Hope you are doing better.

In addition, research studies in just the past couple of decades have found a complicated relationship between solar activity, cosmic rays, and clouds on Earth. This research suggests that in times of low solar activity where solar winds are typically weak; more cosmic rays reach the Earth’s atmosphere which, in turn, has been found to lead to an increase in certain types of clouds that can act to cool the Earth.

Let me get this straight. When the sun puts out less radiation, the earth is not as warm? Is this 2nd grade science?

YeSSSSS! Hopefully now the liberal news media and gov funded scientists will be exposed for the liars they are.

This means it is going to get cold, colder much colder folks!

Bundle up and give it to the liberal mainstream news media!

no wonder they changed global warming to climate change! lol

Thanks for all the thoughts.

I'll dig out the old QRP rig and see what trouble I can get into with 50mw of CW on 6 meters.

At least the antennas are easy for vertical and temporary. ;)

Einstein stated that nothing can be accelerated to the speed of light. Nothing with mass anyway, as it would require an infinite amount of energy to do so, given that mass increases to infinity as objects approach light speed.

I knew a genius (but kooky) guy that studied and wrote a paper on the correlation between the solar cycle, colder weather, and gold prices. They matched up going back hundreds of years. (Gold up, solar and temps down.)

I’m guessing it probably is related to the shorter growing seasons and the increase in food prices (inflation).

The increasingly likely outcome for another historically weak solar cycle continues the recent downward trend in sunspot cycle strength that began over twenty years ago during solar cycle 22. If this trend continues for the next couple of cycles, then there would likely be increasing talk of another “grand minimum” for the sun which is an extended period of low solar activity. Some solar scientists are already predicting that the next solar cycle, #25, will be even weaker than this current one. However, it is just too early for high confidence in those predictions since many solar scientists believe that the best predictor of future solar cycle strength involves activity at the sun’s poles during a solar minimum and the next solar minimum is still likely several years away.

I am happy that all this "science" is being reported. It seems to be based on verifiable facts. Science now needs quotes when you are either referring obviously to actual science or when you are obviously referring to fictional science (unfortunately). They have explained why Global temperatures have flattened and started to fall over the last 20 years. They are also predicting that they will continue to fall for the next several years, ALL BASED ON SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATION AND RECORDS.

The most obvious irony is that the Climate Change Religious Fanatics that want to confiscate wealth to "cool the planet" and the actual "Scientists" are at exactly opposite ends of the global temperature predictions. Logical 2nd graders could analyze and determine which is more credible. But Liberals can't.

Are they going to tell me next that decreased sun activity is caused by global warming ?
