16-year-old voters head to polls in Hyattsville

HYATTSVILLE, Md. - 16-year-old voters headed to the polls in Hyattsville Tuesday for an historic election -- the first since the town changed its minimum voting age.

The teens went to the polls to vote for elected offices in the city, including the mayor and ten council members.

The minimum voting age was changed earlier this year after a public hearing and a city council vote.

Hyattsville is the second city in the country to lower the voting age to 16 after Takoma Park did so two years ago.

Hyattstown is tiny, with only a very few businesses and residences, so I would not worry too much about this.

It’s a start. Give an inch and they’ll spread all over other places.

What’s more telling about this is that even the 18 year olds have wised up and won’t reliably vote for liberals any more. Once the 16s wise up, they’ll have to lower the voting age to 14, or 12 or 10 or 8.

It is unfair that they stopped at 16 as two year old’s need to vote as well.

Personally, I would like to see the voting age raised to age 26 with exceptions for the following:

People serving in the military.
People working full time and paying taxes.
People who can pass a reasonably difficult test covering civics, government, history and economics.

THIS!

What is the legal age to work there (non-agricultural/family farm)?

Sounds like the plot from the movie WILD IN THE STREETS from 1968. I never saw the movie, but I read the story in ESQUIRE MAGAZINE.

Hyattsville is about 75,000 people. It’s between the U of MD and DC.

I lived there for almost 10 years at the beginning of the 21st century. Trust me. The residents don’t get any smarter when they turn 18.

They must all live out in the countryside because every day when I drive through there on I-270, it looks like a tiny crossroads with some housing developments.

I think you’re confusing Hyattstown, which is on 270 a ways north of DC, and Hyattsville, which is just outside the northeast border of DC.

Named after the same guy, I think.

Sounds like a city run by democrats who are looking at a fading democrat majority of voters. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the voting age lowered to 7 or less. Think Seattle or San Francisco.

EXACTLY what I thought, too. Who else would be pushing this?

That’s one way to use empty heads to bolster the Rat votes. Gotta hand it to the crooks-—they know all the angles. Meanwhile, the Pubes are scratching themselves.

Bad news is that they honestly think that Bernie Sanders is a genuine somebody and he's the right man for the White House. Aargh.

The good news is if Bernie gets pissed enough and go Indy after they find a Hilda replacement he could pull off enough of these loons to secure an "R" victory, much like Nader did too I served in Vietnam John Kerry.....
