Lindsey Graham: As president, ‘I would veto any bill’ without path to citizenship
washingtontimes.com ^ | 5/8/15 | Jessica Chasmar

Likely Republican presidential candidate Sen. Lindsey Graham predicted Thursday that the

GOP will lose the 2016 presidential election unless they win over Hispanic voters by supporting a “long, hard path to citizenship.”

“If I were president of the United States, I would veto any bill that did not have a pathway to citizenship,” the South Carolina Republican told USA Today. “You would have a long, hard path to citizenship … but I want to create that path because I don’t like the idea of millions of people living in America for the rest of their lives being the hired help. That’s not who we are.”

Mr. Graham argued that his party risks losing the presidency with its current hard line on immigration.

“We’ll lose,” he told USA Today. “I mean, we’ve got a big hole we’ve dug with Hispanics. We’ve gone from 44 percent of the Hispanic vote (in the 2004 presidential election) to 27 percent (in 2012). You’ll never convince me … it’s not because of the immigration debate.”

Mr. Graham also lashed out at Republicans who believe securing the border is the first priority.

“That’s not practical,” he said. “No Democratic Congress is going to give the Republican Party everything we want on border security until you tell them what happens to the 11 million.”

Has anyone ever called for Sen. Graham to run for President?

Never once did I hear someone say “Hey, you know who would be a great President? Why, Sen. Graham of SC!”

Except John McCain.

Fortunately Linseed’s arrogance is superceded by his lack of appeal. :-)

The only reason Lindsay is running for president is he hopes to be Hillary’s Vice President.

But, since Bill is such a political drag, she is more interested in who serves as first lady, and that job would be wide open and just peachy for Linda.

I am 75 years old.

ALL of my life, I have known there was/is a “Path to Citizenship”.

The Liberals & phoney “Republicans” wish to remove all the steps that path requires & shorten it to a small hop.

It is way past time for politicians to put in the same effort to glorify the hard-working persons in the USA who pay taxes to support all the scofflaws & cheats.

Graham won’t get very far in the 2016 election, & I won’t vote for him no matter what.

scumbags keep saying 11 MILLION for years, when millions have arrived yearly. The number is 50 MILLION.

The illegals already have a path to citizenship.

For most the path heads south, crosses the Rio Grande and ends up back in the country of their birth.

“””...I don’t like the idea of millions of people living in America for the rest of their lives being the hired help. That’s not who we are.”””

I can’t even describe my reaction to this fetid POS’s reasoning.

It’s worse than pandering. It’s a declaration that all three illegals are inferior to the rest of us and the only way to make them or equal is to give them citizenship.

This queen is the epitome of the insulting and demeaning attitude of lifelong bureaucrat.

What offends me is his use of ‘hired help’. We all work for someone if not for ourselves. And if we do work for ourselves, we are still depending on our customers as our employers as without a customer base, we are out of a job.

What is going on in his head?

...he said. “No Democratic Congress is going to give the Republican Party everything we want on border security until you tell them what happens to the 11 million.”

You can a lot of things about Lindsey...

Most things about him I would agree with...and more...

One thing he is, that's he is consummate DC insider and knows how things work...

He's complete right about this statement...

My thinking has "evolved" on illegal immigration, that is the ultimate solution is going to be a bipartisan compromise...whether I like it or not.

We have millions of illegals here and at some point they need to be dealt with in a humane and straightforward way...

Rounding up millions of people who are in the shadows already isn't remotely possible

Really put on thumbscrews on those who hire illegals with severe penalties...

Actually have an E-verify system that works

Many will self deport...

scumbags keep saying 11 MILLION for years, when millions have arrived yearly. The number is 50 MILLION.

Back in the early 2000's when George "Dubya" Bush was pushing for Shamnesty the feds were telling us there were twelve million illegals already here with another one million coming in every year.

Even back then there were studies that determined the actually number if illegals already here was two or three times the official estimate.

Now, 10 or 15 years later, the official number has shrunk to only eleven million?

Who comes up with these numbers?

Must be the same people who figure the number of new jobs created by Obama every month.

Sorry, Lindsey, but we’ve been there and done that before. Right now Obama has this country in a deep depression and it is a gross insult for you to be promoting another amnesty for illegal aliens. Start by reporting the one in the White House, and then we can talk. Deal?

Why would Graham run? He’s not offering anything different than Bush III, Bush Shadow Rubio, or most of the others.

I have a great affection for many illegal aliens. They are my friends.

But it is fundamental that they have forfeited any chance of ever getting US citizenship. That would not be fair to the 100’s of millions of foreigners who want to come here legally.

And by the way, many (most?) do not want US citizenship.
