First Lady Michelle Obama urged students at Tuskegee University, a historically black university in Alabama, to remain involved in civic life during a time of tension regarding race relations across the country.
At the school's commencement address, the First Lady listed scenarios in which African-Americans feel they encounter systemic discrimination, such as "nagging worries that you're going to get stopped or pulled over for absolutely no reason." She said those feelings are "real," but disengaging is not an option.
"I want to be very clear that those feelings are not an excuse to just throw up our hands and give up. Not an excuse. They are not an excuse to lose hope. To succumb to feelings of despair and anger only means that in the end, we lose," Obama said.

Obama noted that events like those in Baltimore and Ferguson have generated feelings of futility amongst black men and women who believe the institutions of civil society aren't designed to protect or represent them.
"They're rooted in decades of structural challenges that have made too many folks feel frustrated and invisible. And those feelings are playing out in communities like Baltimore and Ferguson and so many others across this country," she said.
Obama pressed the students to vote to ensure those institutional systems work more equitably.
"The first thing we have to do is vote. Hey, no, not just once in a while. Not just when my husband or somebody you like is on the ballot. But in every election at every level, all of the time,"

Have to say it. There are reasons. Because lots of blacks are committing crimes, so other blacks that are innocent are caught up in the blowback. Michelle needs to admit that ghetto black punks are unfairly targeting innocent non-blacks. Profiling occurs because lots of these black punks are breaking the law. There's more of them percentage-wise in jail because they're the ones who are bad and hurting others. Michelle needs to admit that black punks are the culprits behind her fears of being stopped or pulled over.
I am white. Sometimes for entertainment I go to the Black Television Comedy shows. BTV... They have a lot of low down cussing, always talking about banging a woman, sex is 60% of the jokes. The singing is always rapster, with a bit of hood, with the pants that hang low. I feel exactly the same about blacks whose primary identity is as black as I do about whites whose primary identity is as white. In a white, almost everyone condemns the Klan-like identity groups. In blacks, the racial identity philosophy is still, sadly, celebrated. I hope they will grow up soon and agree to judge others by the content of their character and not the color of their skin.
I don’t care how much melanin someone has. I want their race to be invisible so they can interact as individuals. If someone wants to be treated as black, as Asian, or as Hispanic, I will treat them as what they really are, meaning the same way I treat members of the Aryan Nation.
