Jeb Bush says voters can be persuaded to support immigration overhaul that includes legal status

Jeb Bush defends his stance on immigration in an interview that airs tonight on Fox News, contending that "a lot of people can be persuaded" to support a rewriting of laws that would allow for legal status.

"I think illegal immigration ought to be punished by coming out from the shadows, earning legal status over an extended period of time where you pay a fine, where you work, where you don’t receive government assistance, where you learn English, where you don’t -- you know, you’re where deported if you commit a crime as is the law," Bush said in an interview that airs at 9 p.m. on Fox News Channel's The Kelly File.

"There are no, very few other options that I can see. The option of self-deportation, or making things so harsh is not really -- I don’t think that’s practical. And rounding people up door to door, isn’t practical either. We need to enforce the, enforce the laws of our country for sure, and enforce the border.

Kelly reminded Bush that he once said he would support a path to citizenship, which he denied.

"No, I’ve said as long as there -- if that was a way to get to a deal, where we turn immigration into a catalyst for high sustained economic growth, where we did all the things we need to do on border security, where we narrow the number of people coming through family petition and dramatically expanded a lifetime number for economic purposes, which will help us grow and help the median rise up and in return for that as a compromise, sure. But the plan, in our book and the plan that I’ve suggested when I go out and speak, which is almost every day on the subject,

Deport Jeb Bush and deport Columba Bush. If Mexico is so great, move back there. And they can speak Spanish all they want.

How is it that under Eisenhower in the Fifties, it wasn’t impractical to deport illegals in “Operation Wetback”, but in 2015, with advanced technology and more oversight of all people, it’s considered impractical?

As long as that “legal status” includes a lifetime ban on voting for them and their children, no anchor baby citizenship and a lifetime ban on collecting any federal or state assistance of any kind.

Jeb: “I think...”
Not from my viewpoint.
You have to throw serious $$$ at someone to be this stupid.

“but in 2015, with advanced technology and more oversight of all people, it’s considered impractical?”

Because impracticality is a BS excuse. Which is what you meant, of course.

My plan: All assets of border-crashers are forfeit. Give them two weeks to self-deport. Following this, border-crashers will be rounded up, flogged, branded on the cheek, and walked back to Mexico under the guard of mounted men with shotguns.

Rations will be beans and tortillas. They will manicure the roadsides down which they walk.

If the election comes down to Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton then I’ll vote for the more honest of the two.

That means I’ll vote for the first one who admits to being a Democrat.

We got "persuaded" by Reagan and the Democrats back in 1986.

[Persuaded] == [Lied to].

“Persuaded”? More like forced to accept it as in rammed down the throats of the citizens. I don’t doubt that if the Republican establishment gets its guy it won’t be any different than Obama at doing things that are unpopular and forcing it down the backs of the America people despite protests and negative phone calls.

Well Jeb we do have an immigration system that has a means to legal status. I personally have 6 aquintenances that came here LEGALLY from opther countries and following the system are now legal American citizens.
It worked for decades ubtil a group decided they could do it illegally and get away with it. Our Leaders ofcourse allowed it causing the problems we now face..

"Immigration overhaul" that supports legalization and citizenship is probably going to be forced on the country regardless of courts or dissident Congressmen before the the next national election. What is anyone going to do about it? States are already forbidden (not legally but none have defied the "requirements") to inquire into a prospective voter's citizenship status. Practically speaking illegals can vote even now so long as the feds are ready to station their own observers at the polls and I suspect the Democrats will be more than willing to do that.

JEB-— YOU can stand in my living room & try your best at convincing me, but you will only be wasting my time. You can try to do so with no time limit.

You have lived far too long in the Ivory Tower of politics and protection of tax-paid-for police protection. When you are willing to do a MONTH LONG NIGHT RIDE ALONG with Sheriff Arpaio in Arizona-—and also a month long ride along in south LA, then let’s see what you think. You need an education about the real illegals & all the trouble they cause.

YOU have probably never encountered the type of scum who beat & raped my stepdaughter in the San Fernando Valley years ago. She never knew how many, but they ALL raped her. She spent days in the hospital & never really recovered her b right personality.

You haven’t encountered the 2 Cholos who attacked & beat my neighbor lady who was about 60 and loading her groceries into her trunk at dusk less than 2 miles from her home at the grocery store. She was severely hurt, her small amount of money was stolen, and all her groceries for the month were stolen. She NEVER went shopping alone again. Even neighbors accompanied her when her husband wasn’t available. It permanently damaged her.

You haven’t encountered the illegal invader scum who couldn’t do decent work in Mexico and have imported their anger & unskilled & useless selves into the USA.... on the backs of the American taxpayers—who DO WORK & PAY THOSE TAXES.

They are costing this country millions & millions of $$$$$ and those who are providing for them in this country are damned tired of doing so.

Quit trying to hold all your speeches inside the rooms of only your supporters. Try seeing what we all see each & every day—even out here on the ranch. 23% of the population of Reno is Hispanic-—and a great number of those are just plain here illegally. The crime is esculating at a dangerous rate here in N Nevada. Harder & harder to even buy ammo.

They cannot speak, write, or read English-—but they are getting DRIVER’S licenses. How stupid is that? MY insurance has been going up steadily—4.8%-—5%—6.6%—and more EACH year here in Nevada since this was decided by the legislature should happen.

I have driven OVER a million miles in the past 61 years. MY last accident was in the fall of 1966.!!!-—YES—I said 1966!!!!! HOWEVER-—MY insurance keeps going up on old, solid vehicles. WHY??? According to an insurance agent I asked-—BECAUSE OF ILLEGAL DRIVERS.!!!

ENOUGH!!!

When all hell breaks loose in this country, your lofty ideas about the illegals will be shoved down your throat, IMO.

IF you become the Republican candidate, I will NOT be voting for President in 2016. I will be a classic UNDER VOTE.

Truman started the deportations — & we all know he was a Democrat. Eisenhower continued them.

Aren’t elected officials supposed to legislate according to what the voters have chosen rather than working to persuade voters to support their agenda?
