VIENNA (Reuters) - Gay-themed traffic lights are getting Vienna into the mood for the annual Eurovision Song Contest, one of the world's most popular kitsch cultural events which this year is being hosted by the Austrian capital.

Dozens of traffic lights in central Vienna have been programmed to show male or female gay couples with hearts -- in red for stop and green for go -- replacing the usual single, gender-neutral figure.

If they had straight couples holding hands in green, and gay couples holding hands in red, then I'm OK with that.

When I first read the headline I thought they were going to replace the three colors with the seven colors of the rainbow all meaning different things.

That would have led to lots of death and destruction in auto accidents, which would be a clever, if painful, metaphor for the gay "lifestyle".

I’m picturing a big Disco Ball in the middle of the intersection. “Just go with it...”

My first thought upon reading the headline was that all the lights of an intersection would be red at the same time, yellow at the same time, and green at the same time rather than celebrating the diversity of red for one direction while the other had the green.

From the article, Vienna will also host a "Life Ball" charity event on May 16 to raise money for the fight against HIV and AIDS

Do you think they're ever going to put two-and-two together and see the connection?

I had a lesbian sister in law. Well she was ‘attention gay”. She had a black girlfriend too. Because being gay simply was not liberal enough to get here the status she desired.

When that didn’t work, she ditched the girlfriend and last I knew, rediscovered penis. But she got lots of sympathy for her struggle with ‘bisexuality’ after her ‘broken relationship’

Yup, I can relate.

Top crawling into a casket with a dead person to be close to them at a funeral, in a church filled with mourning family.

For attention. Not out of sorrow. For attention.
