Amtrak Results: Target cashier becomes Amtrak “death-train” engineer

You don’t think qualified people for important jobs start out in low paying, low skilled jobs? Do you think that disqualifies them for future training and skills?

I have been a lead engineer on many massive oil/gas/petrochem jobs. Several of those projects were over $1 billion dollars.

My past job experience includes collecting trash, running a septic suck truck, sweeping floors, etc.

Maybe you think such jobs were always beneath you. I didn’t. I took what work I could get for the knowledge and experience I had at the time. I gained from each experience.

The long record of affirmative action's harm on professional standards in all fields is not just fact but also truth.

And the evidence of this same harm reaching down from Obama to Amtrak's gay "diversity and inclusion" job policies and then down to a 32-year old gay-activist/Target-cashier can not be dismissed as ideal speculation!

“.... actually pretty believable... hit his head...”

I would normally agree with you BUT according to the article, it was stated that he said his cell phone was off and in a bag. He remembered taking it out and dialing 911. I’ve been in a vehicle accident where I was knocked unconscious and suffered a head injury. My memory of the accident is blurry at best.. I remember sliding.. that is all. I have no recollection of anything else.. if the radio was on, what I was thinking, what I was doing before hand or after. IMHO, to remember the cell phone issue before the accident and immediately afterwards.. puts doubt in my mind that he doesn’t recall a thing about the accident itself (either beforehand or afterward).

Let’s see the blood test results and that may indicate why he “can’t remember.” However, he did apply the brakes, slowing to 102 mph seconds before the crash, so he was not unconscious.

His phone has been reported as being off and in his bag at the time of the crash—per Amtrak rules.

Whether he’s gay or not has no bearing on this accident.

Homosexuals are mentally disordered, so in a way it does, actually.

"You don’t think qualified people for important jobs start out in low paying, low skilled jobs? Do you think that disqualifies them for future training and skills?"

No, I don't think this. What I'm saying is that when a 32-year old, with only that background - who is politically active in identity-group politics - moves up in a government agency - that is itself immersed in identity-group employment practices - and then he has a pivotal role in a deadly accident, the role identity-group politics had in his career must also be a target of the inquiry.

Some sort of automation not in place is unthinkable—— especially when one person — the engineer— has so many lives under his control on a train.

“If you ask questions about this, you’re obviously a homophobe.”

Watch for that to be the media meme.

What I'm saying is that when a 32-year old, with only that background -

That is his only background? He went directly from Cashier to engineer for this train? I think "only that background" is a misleading or intentionally false description.

who is politically active in identity-group politics

Not what my or your comments discussed.

that is itself immersed in identity-group employment practices - and then he has a pivotal role in a deadly accident, the role identity-group politics had in his career must also be a target of the inquiry.

No sale. That doesn't justify your previous description.

I don't buy into putting someone down, portraying diminished ability, based upon previous low skilled employment. I will always push back against such elitist crap.

There - you're doing it again. Not that I disagree with your statement on the harm done to professional standards by affirmative action (because I don't), but it seems like there's still way too much speculation whether that is relevant at all to the situation at hand.

So, if we want to have THAT discussion (the one about the dangers of affirmative action), there won't be much for you and me to disagree about.

Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

This old engine makes it on time,
Leaves Central Station ‘bout a quarter to nine,
Hits River Junction at seventeen to,
At a quarter to ten you know it’s travelin’ again.

Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

Trouble ahead, Lady in red,
Take my advice you’d be better off dead.
Switchman’s sleeping, train hundred and two is
On the wrong track and headed for you.

Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

Trouble with you is the trouble with me,
Got two good eyes but you still don’t see.
Come round the bend, you know it’s the end,
The fireman screams and the engine just gleams

Grateful Dead

So, no gays should be employed in any field requiring any kind of mental acuity?

No gays should be hired in positions requiring any kind of psychological stability.

It’s why they were never granted security clearances up until Clinton. (partially why - the other part was that being caught with a young boy was a vulnerability an enemy government could exploit).

I’d just like everyone to STOP calling this guy an engineer!!

It is an insult to real engineers that have spent years in school and years designing products for market.

How does this guy get the title “Engineer” when he is a ex-cashier who moved on to driving a train? Does he design anything? Does he fix anything? Or does he turn knobs?

It’s like TSA employees being called “Federal Agent”, they’re not...just passenger screeners in a uniform!

Not saying you’re wrong, but that opinion will get one utterly roasted by the media these days.

What’s worse....I have no idea how to change that.

This new engine makes it on time
Leaves 30th Street station ‘bout ten after nine
Hits Port Richmond at nine twenty one
At 100 per hour you know it’s going just fine

Driving that train, high on cocaine
Brandon Bostian you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind
