Soon it could be possible to apply for food stamps over the phone, with proponents arguing that in-person interviews add too much extra administrative cost.
A report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) looked at whether it should get rid of in-person interviews for those who apply to receive benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which is commonly known as food stamps. The program is the nations largest food-assistance program.

Awesome. Now folks may be able to just download an APP to their govt supplied phone to "take advantage" of everything they deserve. Meanwhile, Social Security is still apparently in trouble. Unemployment benefits and EBT funding, not so much. WTH? Well, it is OPM.

Well with the never ending job hunt. Which is weird since, “there isn’t a single segment of the economy that isn’t better off today than it was six and a half years ago....” RIGHTTTTT!

Make it as easy as possible for as many people as possible to sign up for the dole. All part of the (Cloward-Piven)plan.

Geeze, its not like theyre all that busy to start with, for the most part. Looting, burning and rioting can be time consuming and calorie burning. Some people find it rewarding though.

... with proponents arguing that in-person interviews add too much extra administrative cost. This would also allow them to use the "extra administrative cost" money to hire more IRS people to go after conservatives, more NSA people to spy on conservatives and more government employees to attend "Star Trek" hot tub conferences and monitor porn on the net.

Congratulations America we have permitted the most corrupt inept government money can buy.
Obtaining welfare - be it social or corporate should be the exception and a challenge, and instead it has become the rule and norm. Every person and corporation that is getting special benefits, including disability, and taxpayer credits and payouts should be identified in a searchable data base along with amounts.
It needs to become a stigma to be on the dole, because it is creating a culture where those not collecting the handouts (both corporate and individual) begin to believe they are saps. We need to know who gets what.

But welfare fraud costs nothing, is that it?
Not that welfare itself is not a fraud, of course.

Actually, I sort of support this. I mean, what do you ask a person who is applying for food stamps? What is the point of an interview?
If it saves on administrative costs, go for it.

From what I understand that's how it used to be. Cities and towns managed their own welfare. In a small town it was no secret who was receiving welfare and everyone who knew that also knew they were footing the bill. It was a check on expansion.
When states took over welfare that provided anonymity for recipients. It has metastasized since then to making EBT cards look like everyday credit cards and radio spots making food stamps seem like an everyday thing for which one should not be ashamed.
These days it seems everyone is a victim, everyone is a member of a protected class, everyone has such a difficult circumstance requiring OPM. Everyone except that diminishing and overburdened group of people known as taxpayers.
