Graduation day at Rutgers University is a chance for students to relax after four years of college and celebrate with family and friends before entering the real world.

Or, when Bill Nye is the keynote speaker, it's a reminder that the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere is rising and its future may be a "no-way-out overheated globe."

Nye, the bow-tied host of "Bill Nye The Science Guy," used his speech at Rutgers' commencement Sunday as a platform to tell students they must find a way to stop climate change.

Even though I know the true motivation behind this climate change hoax is ultimately destroying the capitalist economic system and replacing it with socialism/communism,

Why do you say that? Capitalism and communism are by no means mutually exclusive. Just look at china. That someone is a capitalist in no way ensures us that he is not a communist.

The logic behind the global warming hoax is that places like China do not give a sh*t about global warming nor would they ever bother following any environmental laws. They just laugh at that notion. But Western nations would have to. So of course it would give them a massive unfair advantage. Much like with their slave labor system.

They still laughed and walked out.

A country's CO2 output is proportional to their GDP, and nothing destroys GDP more than leftism.

Incorrect. China's CO2 output per dollar of GDP is 3.5 times US CO2 output per dollar of GDP. That is why raising our electricity prices and forcing more industry to leave and go to China is an incredibly stupid idea both for people like us who need jobs and the zealots who think that China will change their totalitarian mercantilism and improve their incredibly inefficient economy.

Yep, you nailed it. They will be very happy if we further hamstring our industry by raising industrial electricity prices and rebating the proceeds to the masses to buy more Chinese crap.

Only Leftist indoctrination is allowed on campus.

Condi Rice did not fit that bill at Rutgers.

Ignorance by the engineers is no excuse. They need to get educated about the actual facts of this issue.

It’s not the ignorance of the engineers in question, it is the ignorance of the GOVERNMENT representative on glo-bull warming.

"they must find a way to stop climate change"

So now the goal is not simply to mitigate global warming but to STOP climate change? Sounds like a tall order to me, and a very expensive one, and a very authoritarian one.

I might have been at that same event. My son graduated from WSU somewhere around 2005.

And once we stop climate change, we'll start working on continental drift.

Bill Nye has an advanced degree in nothing. And I literally mean nothing, in that his terminal degree is a BS in mechanical engineering. If not for politically correct friends, his talents could easily be outsourced to a high school student in India.

So he’s a scientist, a climatologist, a sociologist...

...is there anything he DOESN’T know?

So I went to your link and there is no way I am going to waste my time reading through that technical document to try and distill whatever you wanted me to see or grasp. I am not even sure why you would send someone something like that.

My biggest problem is that I don't believe these scientists anymore than I believe the lying politicians. They have been caught multiple times manipulating data to fit their models in order to reach a conclusion that will win them another grant to do more manipulation for another grant, ad infinitum.

But what I do have time for however, is to say that global cooling or global warming or climate change or whatever the latest incantation this scam is being called by the liberals, is that it has nothing to do with the environment, the climate or saving the planet. It has everything to do with a scheme to redistribute the wealth from hardworking stiffs like me and into the pockets of the elite Marxist liberals. All of the technical mumbo jumbo is so that people get caught up in the long weeds trying to explain and prove it. Remember, the "debate is over"? This is "settled science"? I don't recall any debate and any science that is settled. These are just other tactics by the left to deflect and avoid discussing the details. Why? Because the only science this is about is political science.

The Left wants to do away with capitalism as an economic system and replace it with their beloved socialism. To do that, they have to demonize capitalism and their use of fossil fuels that spews pollutants into the atmosphere. Of course, they don't address how socialism avoids this problems, other than to say that we need "sustainable green fuels" that don't pollute. Like wind, solar, hydro and algae. No nuclear, of course, even though it's clean. And this is because again, this is not about the environment. It is about economic system change.

So forget your numbers. Forget your statistics. Forget your so called proof. With liberals, the issue [climate change] is never the real issue. The issue is always the [socialist] revolution.

China's CO2 output per dollar of GDP is 3.5 times US CO2 output per dollar of GDP.

After researching it you're right. USA energy consumption and CO2 emissions are pretty flat while China's looks about 3 times more than USA despite a much smaller GDP. What are they using all that energy for if not producing products? Product prices ultimately reflect the amount of energy consumed. The cost of energy in China must be very low.

My biggest problem is that I don't believe these scientists anymore than I believe the lying politicians.

That's fine, then just believe me. There are three orders of magnitude more human emissions (per year) than a volcano like Pinatubo. The human emissions are easy, they come from economic data and simple conversion from various fossil fuel amounts to CO2 produced. There is some fudging regarding "land use changes" but not more than a 20% if you completely discount land use (rainforest clearing). Taking land use at face value there is no more than 5% uncertainty in the human produced amount: 30 Gt/year.

Regarding natural CO2, there is an annual cycle of emission and absorption corresponding to NH spring and summer (absorption) and winter (emission). Those are pretty much balanced since that sinusoid measurement has been replicated worldwide, is somewhat suppressed in the southern hemisphere, etc. The ongoing volcanic emission is less well known. It is estimated to be about 1/100 of manmade emission.

There is a possibility that lots of small volcanoes started emitting 1900 and especially after 1950 and that is why we see the steady increase in atmospheric CO2. But the explanation that fits the facts much better is that it is manmade and not coincidental volcanoes.

You are of course free to believe that the science of CO2 growth is political. But it does fit the meaurements of volcanoes especially large volcanoes. Those are in the 10's of Mt at most. It would take 100's or 1000's more undiscovered underwater volcanoes (i.e. CO2 vents) to explain the increase, not large land volcanoes which are much more precisely measured.

And again, it would be a very odd coincidence that all those volcanoes and vents increased at the same rate we have increased manmade emissions.

Yes, the price is not set by the market and most energy is wasted. But they also have a much larger mix of CO2-rich sources like coal. Their coal percentage 70%, more than double ours, and growing in percentage. Coal produces almost twice the CO2 as natural gas.

This thread was about Bill Nye and climate change. We're off onto a tangent that was not intended but I'll plow through it if you want to play. I don't think China is exactly a shining example on the hill for capitalism. Communism, maybe, but not unfettered, laze-faire, free enterprise capitalism.

Capitalism- Work with them. Establish the corporate hierarchies and support them. Keep regulation to a minimum. Stay out of their way and let them produce.

Socialism (mixed economy)- Control them. Redistribute wealth in accordance with political goals (such as the expansion of the welfare class and the dominance of nationalized industries). This is the ideal of the government as bureaucratic planner of society: man produces, the State disposes.

Communism- Replace them. Take over the economy and society as a whole by force. Imprison or kill any opposition. Problem solved.

I am a Milton Friedman fan because he was the preeminent economist when I was in business school. His pronouncements on capitalism versus other economic systems make the most sense of any I've ever read and still do. He claimed that the only system in recorded history where the poor masses could escape abject poverty is where capitalism and free enterprise and trade were in place. Socialism and communism have never worked in the history of the world, except to benefit the elitists in power. Forget about helping to lift the poor up to a better living standard.

See, palmer, already in the first paragraph, you are getting so deep into the long weeds about this subject that my eyes glaze over and my mind shuts down. I was an A student in high school and university, graduating near the top of both classes, so I am not a stupid man. But the older I get, the more I rely on my gut and instinct about such things. And I have seen enough garbage written about climate change to know that this is a scam. The sheer arrogance of man to think he can control nature and the climate is astounding and not believable. As always, they say follow the money. And when you do, you realize this is not about the Left trying to be benevolent towards the environment but it's about power and the wealth.

Yes, I do believe this is political and has always has been. The low hanging fruit still thinks this issue is about the climate and how it is "changing" but the powers behind the Wizard of Oz's curtain know better. They are using this subject as a ruse to get their ideological way. It's one big head fake. A red herring. And yet after multiple predicted end-of-world deadlines and end games have come and gone and not materialized, we're still at square one when it comes to this climate crap. Why? Because it is not real. It is being used by the elite Left as a scare tactic to get people to turn over more of their money to "fix" this climate change problem. What I haven't ever seen or read or heard, is exactly how is this change going to be realistically effected or implemented, except to take my hard-earned money from my wallet and put in the elitist Left's pockets. Oh, they talk about planting some trees to offset carbon emissions but nothing more substantial.

Bjorn Lomborg, a Danish environmental economist and author of “The Skeptical Environmentalist", says that even though climate change may be a problem in a list of many that affect the world, it is by no means our main environmental threat facing mankind. He has spent time analyzing the world's problems versus how to prioritize spending the world's wealth in dealing with these global problems. He thinks the world's residual wealth from the countries around the globe would be better spent on things like AIDS, malnutrition and cleaner water supplies than long-term climate change. He said that if the entire wealth of the global economies were just spent of solving climate change, that it would have a less than one tenth of one percent effect on the problem. So he is saying mankind will get more bang for their buck on more immediate and practical issues like better nutrition, health and water for the world's poor.

I just think it is another politically correct scam where, instead of being called a racist or a sexist or a homophobe or an Islamaphobe if you don't agree with the Left's pet projects, you're called a "denier", which by innuendo, throws you in with Holocaust deniers crowd and makes you look like an evil, white-privileged, right-wing conspiracist hater.

Nice try but no cigar.

...”I have seen enough garbage written about climate change to know that this is a scam. The sheer arrogance of man to think he can control nature and the climate is astounding and not believable”....

Good post.......I agree with this statement.

BTW....I was online throughout the night and next day when the e-mails were anonymously sent, (regarding the climate warming fiasco data as it unfolded that night), It was one of the most memorable times ever on line I have ever spent. What was also revealing is as the scientists came on line and those who had been trying effortlessly to disprove the data...it was well noted how explicit they were to make sure the info was legitimate. They checked and cross checked communicating from one site to another to face-book pages etc...it was extraordinarily exciting HotHunt.

Let me add that I know nothing of weather data etc. but it was not hard for even me to see what was being disputed, and who was being truthful and not.

I fully believe that those open to "truth" will always follow thru to whatever end might be....those who are concealing or falsifying information will not be so eager and in fact 'easy to see' they prefer the issues be left aside or twist what is already known.

As said it was beyond amazing watching these people who did seek the truth operate all night into the next day....I was privileged to observe it all as it unfolded.....and for that knew truth as it was revealed.
