Kerry: Internet 'Needs Rules to Be Able to Flourish and Work Properly'
The Weekly Standard ^ | 5/18/2015 | By DANIEL HALPER

n a speech today in South Korea, Secretary of State John Kerry said that the Internet "needs rules to be able to flourish and work properly." This, according to Kerry, is necessary even for "a technology founded on freedom."

Speaking on behalf of the Obama administration, Kerry said that Internet policy is "a key component of our foreign policy."

Kerry made his remarks in the context of talking about how international law is applicable to the Internet. "As I’ve mentioned, the basic rules of international law apply in cyberspace. Acts of aggression are not permissible. And countries that are hurt by an attack have a right to respond in ways that are appropriate, proportional, and that minimize harm to innocent parties. We also support a set of additional principles that, if observed, can contribute substantially to conflict prevention and stability in time of peace. We view these as universal concepts that should be appealing to all responsible states, and they are already gaining traction," said Kerry.

A Statist cannot stand the thought that there is a single action, breath, movement, made by anyone that is not under the control of some rule or authority of government.

"Via Treaty and International Law."

Kerry’s vision for the Internet is another good examply why the 17th Amendment (17A) should never have been ratified. More on 17A shortly.

More specifically, both Thomas Jefferson and the Supreme Court had indicated that the Senate cannot use its power to negotiate treaties as a back door to forcing US citizens to comply with foreign laws which the states have never delegated to Congress, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to make.

Here are some relevant excerpts from Jefferson’s writings.

And here is a Supreme Court clarification of the limits of the Senate’s power to confirm treaties.

“2. Insofar as Art. 2(11) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice provides for the military trial of civilian dependents accompanying the armed forces in foreign countries, it cannot be sustained as legislation which is “necessary and proper” to carry out obligations of the United States under international agreements made with those countries, since no agreement with a foreign nation can confer on Congress or any other branch of the Government power which is free from the restraints of the Constitution [emphasis added].” — Reid v. Covert, 1956 .

In fact, Jefferson had also warned that the states need to keep an eye on the Senate and POTUS.

"In every event, I would rather construe so narrowly as to oblige the nation to amend, and thus declare what powers they would agree to yield, than too broadly, and indeed, so broadly as to enable the executive and the Senate to do things which the Constitution forbids." --Thomas Jefferson: The Anas, 1793.

If the Senate was still uniquely controlled by state lawmakers then I don’t think that patriots would have to concern themselves as much with corrupt senators who wrongly try to expand the federal government’s powers though treaties.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and a bunch of corrupt senators along with it.

Kerry: Internet 'Needs Rules to Be Able to Flourish and Work Properly'

Kerry hopes to trick the technically astute but politically uninformed into thinking that by "rules" he means "technology standards" rather than "content restrictions."

Actually, someone close to me has warned me about speech in general, so I do not get picked up as a dissident. Charge irrelevant.

Even if it did need additional rules, they should in no way be rules set and monitored by a governmental body.

I wish Sad Sack Kerry, The State Department, and his boss, were as concerned about themselves abiding by the Laws, Rules, and Constitution of The United States and upholding what they swore oath to protect and defend.

Yo, Kerry, the internet is flourishing and working properly, you stupid, despicable, worthless, obnoxious, ignorant dork pos.
But it won't for long once you jackasses in government wrest control of it, ruining it like EVERYTHING else over which you grab control.

Hopefully this will wake people up because everybody including liberals damn well know the internet works perfectly fine. This is just one blatant attempt by these statist mofos to reduce basic human freedoms and what ticks me off is we got a traitor to the military, someone who should be nowhere even near anything having to do with the US government much less walking around as Secretary of state, pushing this crap.

Here is the translation from Lerch...

We cannot control the people as long as their is a free and open Internet. This is because it exposes our lies to willfully trick and deceive the public.

Only a control freak would make such statement reminiscent of Joseph Goebbels.

Looking at his specific words, it appears he is referring only to cyber attacks, hacking, fraud, and internet piracy, not regulating speech of any kind.

Any treaty requires senate approval. Fat chance...,

Uh...yeah. That's what I thought about the chances that Justice Roberts would uphold Obamacare. Never underestimate the power of a good threat of blackmail or death.
