One of the more bizarre spectacles of U.S. government in the modern age is the sight of political leaders complaining that a public program is actually working.
In many states that expanded Medicaid and even some that rejected expansion under the Affordable Care Act, enrollment has significantly exceeded projections.
To some political leaders, for some reason, this is supposed to be a bad thing. Some Republican governors are in effect calling it "an 'I told you so' moment".
In Michigan, for instance, first-year enrollment was projected at 323,000, but enrollment topped out at 605,000. Illinois expected 199,000, and has ended up (so far) with 634,000. Ohio expected 366,000 and so far has signed up 485,000.
It should go without saying that political leaders who do their utmost to prevent their own citizens from taking advantage of a government program aren't qualified to hold public office. Florida enacted rules interfering with ACA outreach efforts, as did several other GOP-controlled states. In Congress, GOP lawmakers hectored government officials who were spending money to sign up eligible people.
Who do these government officials think they're representing?

Somehow, “enrollment” is supposed to be the golden egg.
Just goes to prove that Central Planning is always wrong.
Stone cold stupid. It needs a hurl alert.
Taxpayers!
Only a liberal nitwit could think that twice or three times as many new Medicaid recipients as projected is a good thing.
These people are stark, raving lunatics.
What else is there to say?
I did not sign up for anything. The state put me on medi-cal without asking for or getting my permission. I can no longer see the nurse practitioner I was happy with, and am stuck with a doctor I can’t stand.
Yippee!
And now people will find out that health insurance isn’t the same as healthcare.
As if Americans were not getting healthcare before Obamacare took over. The LA Times is a joke.
If you’re below the Obamacare threshold, you go into Medicaid.
Beats being uninsured.
People can’t afford Obamacare’s exorbitant premiums, deductibles and narrow in-networks coverage.
With Medicaid, there are no hassles. Single payer is here to stay.
Apparently, these silly government officials think they're representing people who work for a living and pay taxes.
How goofy is that?
Uninsured? Medicaid is medical welfare.
“In Congress, GOP lawmakers hectored government officials who were spending money to sign up eligible people.
Who do these government officials think they’re representing?”
Taxpayers. The ones the keep the country running.
I’m reminded of the joke about Obamacare: “If you like your health plan, you can keep it.”
Don’t condemn people who lost theirs. And if you can sign up for a private health plan only a few months of year, where’s the free market?
For you, it may be medical welfare. For an increasing number of Americans, its the only health care they now afford.
Fewer and fewer of them can afford even bare-bones Obamacare coverage.
The GOP likes to hector about Obamacare but is not offering a viable replacement for it.
They think they're representing those who have to pay for all the leeches jumping on the Medicare wagon.....
I was getting my care through the Church. I got physical and spiritual care. Now everything is scan this and xray that, take these pills and be on your way. There’s more to wellness than the quantity of days you’re alive.
We should send the LA times the new bill for theses people. If they pay it we will agree its a good thing. Otherwise we will ask them where all the extra money is suppose to come from. People never saved all their lives to pay for other people’s goods and services.
The math just doesn’t work out and there isn’t enough money to go around. Unfortunately their glorified expansion boils down to a form of theif of the bread from the man who labored by the man who did nonthng.
“The GOP likes to hector about Obamacare but is not offering a viable replacement for it.”
Why would we replace something that needs to be repealed?
To replace an evil with anther evil is a wast of effort.
