Over the weekend, Louisiana-Lafayette won the Lafayette region of the NCAA Softball World Series Tournament after defeating Baylor 9-1 in the final game on Sunday.
But prior to the team's first meeting on Saturday, the third game of the day, fans in attendance were told that because the game was the third of the day, there would be no national anthem prior to the start of the contest.
Fans at Lamson Park was none too pleased, and after several failed attempts to get the public address announcer to play the song, fans took it upon themselves to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Good things are still happening in America.
Fantastic!
“Good things are still happening in America.”
You would have to know and understand the people of Lafayette, Louisiana. I am sure that, to them, it was not a big deal to sing the anthem on their own. They are the most friendly, lovable people on the planet. ;-)
There is a tidal wave building folks.
We’re not the only ones who are damned sick of this ——!
Tell those “officials” to come to a NASCAR Race and try that!
Rush “officials” hiding place, Hog Tie, Drag behind 4 Wheeler, Rope, Tree, Camera Crain or Scoring Tower, Anthem!!!!!!
I earned an Electrical Engineering degree from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It’s also where I was born.
The National Anthem sung acapella by everyday citizens is very beautiful.
Much better than some libtard meathead pop singer screeching it out.
Outstanding!
Civil disobedience can show itself in many ways. Do not conform.
This isn’t actually all that unusual. When the NCAA (and other sanctioning bodies) hold multiple games back-to-back in the same place, they typically treat it as one “event,” and sing the National Anthem once, at the start of the event (e.g., before the first game). Good job by the fans here, but I don’t think the NCAA did anything wrong.
Good for them!!
Used to work near Lafayette. Fond memories of getting the world’s greatest boudain at Jimmy Rabideaux’s in Iowa.
Meh. I went to the REAL University of Louisiana. It’s in Monroe!
Amen!
Its always wrong to refuse to [play the National Anthem...
I was at a meeting a few weeks ago where someone hadn’t turned up with an American flag..
I find that DAR types who like to act as though my Loyalist ancestors make me lessor than are some of the most liberal females in the country and the female running the meeting was one of those types..
“Oh” says she “we’ll just not do the Pledge of Allegiance since we have no flag..”:
The meeting was attended by the descendants of very early American colonials and I (a veteran) was about to jump up amongst the stunned silence and Pledge anyway, when a friend said “that’s OK we can just face North” and she gets up and starts the Pledge herself..
Ive never heard of facing North, but then Ive never come across an idiot who thought it was OK to dismiss honoring the country that sheltered our ancestors ..
God Bless my friend and God Bless America..
That's class... I mean PURE CLASS. You'd have a better chance of seeing God than seeing that at a Flyers game.
LOL!
Now it’s: DRIVERS START YOUR ENGINES!!!
