Washington (CNN)In a rare joint action with attorneys general for each of the 50 states, the Federal Trade Commission says four cancer charities run by extended members of the same family conned donors out of $187 million from 2008 through 2012 and spent almost nothing to help actual cancer patients. Federal Trade Commission: Four cancer charities a sham

Federal Trade Commission: Four cancer charities a sham Each of the charities charged were the subject of extensive reporting by CNN in 2013. And in each instance, none of the four charities would comment. We were ordered out of the building at the Cancer Fund of America in Knoxville, Tennessee, and were the object of an obscene gesture by the CEO of The Breast Cancer Society in Mesa, Arizona.

Disgusting. Why I DO NOT GIVE MONEY to any charity. I'll donate my time.

The Cancer Fund of America

Cancer Support Services

Children’s Cancer Fund of America

The Breast Cancer Society

All were created and controlled by the same network of people and led by James Reynolds Sr., the F.T.C. says.

Private cars, cruises, luxury items...paid for with donations.

Intricate family connections bind several of America's worst charities

Carol Smith still gets angry when she remembers the box that arrived by mail for her dying husband. Cancer Fund of America sent it when he was diagnosed with lung cancer six years ago. Smith had called the charity for help. "It was filled with paper plates, cups, napkins and kids' toys," the 67-year-old Knoxville, Tenn., resident said. "My husband looked like somebody slapped him in the face. "I just threw it in the trash."

Such a charity would have to be run by a bunch of crooks.

This sounds very familiar to the Clinton Foundation. Hillary is probably busting Bill's chops, "Why didn't you think this up?"

They call our house all the time from different charities. The only one that my Mom gave to was the Make a Wish charity because we know that one is legit..and once she gave to the Leukemia society

I hope they shut them all down. They won’t spend anytime in prison but their names will be mud.

The federal givernment is the largest scam in America...

and is only the tip of the iceberg..

IF the givernment(fed, state, local) is taxing something YOU OWN...
You are RENTING IT from the givernment..

Mom controls all charitible spending for my parents and vets worthy causes. The shortlist presently is The Heritage Foundation, The Nimitz Museum, the Ronald Reagan Foundation, and Judicial Watch.

I am no longer charitable... I don’t even donate blood... though I am on the National Bone Marrow Donor registry.

They have never called me from the Heritage Foundation, do you have to be on their list in order for them to call you? I would donate to them and I would donate to Vets groups as well, like Wounded Warriors I see the commercials all the time

The United Way got caught a few decades back....300K for the CEO a year, luxury trips to Europe via the Concord SST and so on.

Well, while there is probably little doubt about these charities, if THERE IS one thing this government knows about, its shams.

Used to donate to a Breast Cancer site. Did some research and found that they raised 32 million. /but 28 million went to the companies that did the calling for them! Less than 5% for research. Cut them off@

IOW, the same kinds of corruptions familiar from studying any org run by the Demagogic Party.

The question becomes, who didn’t get their cut?

The only surprise, besides people not suspecting this stuff, is that this is being brought out.

I also suspect all those companies that ask for you to ‘adopt’ a kid in another country.
