Last weekend an unspecified number of American Special Ops boots landed on the ground in Syria and killed a senior ISIS commander and about a dozen others. The same weekend a relatively small number of ISIS troops captured Ramadi, the major provincial capital of Iraq's Anbar Province.
This despite allied air power.
And the world watched the flight of thousands of U.S.-trained Iraqi troops, abandoning additional fleets of U.S. military vehicles to the enemy.
Obama's press secretary was asked if this sort of event constituted the kind of "success" the administration has touted against ISIS? "Overall, yes," said Josh Earnest, earnestly.
He added, "We have seen a lot of success. But we've also seen significant periods of setback."
No kidding. The loss of Ramadi. The loss of Mosul. The loss of Falluja, each of which required significant investments of American treasure and lives to capture in the first place. Poof. Lost, just like that. (The full Earnest press briefing for May 19 should be posted here sometime today.)
We have no way of knowing what kind of glue this White House staff is sniffing. But they're taking something powerful to so seriously distort their thinking. They talk of the ebb and flow of protracted battle. This one has been mostly ebb.

They’ve captured Ramadi, and more tanks. They also took a third of the Syrian city of Palmyra today.

The Obama regime doesn’t have a clue about what is happening in the world. That’s why they are trying to legalize “recreational” drugs. They don’t want anybody else figuring it out.
I asked this on another thread last night. Why is it “ISIS” all of a sudden? For months Obama and his administration ghouls have continually refused to answer any questions about “ISIS” rather preferring to respond briefly with “ISIL” is under control blah, blah, blah....motherhood BS....blah, blah, blah.....
Now it is “ISIS”. WHY? I know what both mean and never could understand the dogged insistence on Obama’s “ISIL” mantra. What’s changed? Something they’ve refused to acknowledge now going good for them so it’s okay to mention? What?
It *is* a success in B. Hussein’s mind - radical Muzzies are establishing a caliphate.
I expected Obama to be shockingly inept in most areas, especially the military and foreign policy, but I never imagined that he could be this destructive. Obama has turned a “JV” group of thugs into a nation state, and the most powerful country in the world into a land of food stamp parasites. As evil and destructive as I expected our communist Dear Leader to be, he is far worse than I imagined. I pray that America will survive and eventually recover from the devastation.

My assesment is that the forces fighting in Syria and Iraq have been divided by the administration into the radicals called ISIL and the Sunnis.
The final outcome will be that the Sunnis will control the wastern part of the Tigris Euphrates valley and the Shia will control present day Iraq from just west of Baghdad east to the Gulf
At some point, the traditional Sunni Tribal leaders will be assisted by the previously dissolved coalition to oust the wackos. Egypt is the template. There is no urgency in accomplishing these objectives.
The fact that Iraq and Syria are for evermore sundered is a given.
What happens in the Assad controlled remainder of Syria is not clear, but for the time being doesn’t matter. Assad lacks the ability and probably the will to reclaim what once was.

I bet Rush Limbaugh too. If Rush knew what this would be like, he wouldn’t have gotten slammed for saying, “I hope he fails.” He would have gotten slammed for saying, “I prostrate myself on the ground and pray to the Heavenly Father above that he might fail.”
