The Islamic State terror group now controls over half of Syrian territory after seizing the village and archaeological site of Palmyra Thursday, activists monitoring Syria's civil war said.
Rami Abdurrahman of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told the Associated Press the extremists overran the archaeological site, just to the southwest of the modern settlement on Palmyra, shortly after midnight local time.
In Damascus, state TV acknowledged that pro-government forces had withdrawn from the town. A Facebook page close to ISIS published a statement Thursday, purportedly from the group, saying "the soldiers of the Islamic State" completed their control of Palmyra. The capture came after government forces collapsed, "leaving large numbers of dead whose bodies filled the streets," it said.
An activist in the central province of Homs who goes by the name of Bebars al-Talawy said ISIS has taken over the ruins at the UNESCO world heritage site famous for its 2,000-year-old towering Roman-era colonnades and other ruins and priceless artifacts. Before the war, thousands of tourists a year visited the remote desert outpost, a cherished landmark referred to by Syrians as the "Bride of the Desert."

Obama has ISIS on the run, basically since he retreated from his national security responsibilites ISIS has been able to “run” from conquered city to conquered city.
Obama WANTS ISIS to win.
Despite Obama’s vow to destroy ISIS, they are well on their way to creating a jihadist Arabic speaking Sunni state composed of large parts of Syria and Iraq. Actually its up to Iran, which has the most to lose, to stop them.
I think Omoron and Iran want Isis to win. Isis will be the bodyguard for Iran if Israel tries anything. Just my thoughts...I could be wrong. This is working well for Valerie Jarrett and her counterparts in Iran.

What I don’t get is how does ISIS provide basic services? Any skilled workers must get out of town right away. I see the ISIS Caliphate becoming a giant latrine. I know there is oil money, but you can’t buy everything.

Good observations. I also want to know just WHO is filming all the reports that we see from those war ravaged areas!! Does anyone know?

Israel may not love Assad but they’re really gonna have problems with the new neighbors.
With half of Syria gone we should start placing bets how long it will be before President Asswad flees the country or is killed.
