The long, legal road to marital anarchy
The Washington Times ^ | May 24, 2015 | Robert Knight

As the calendar slips toward the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, there’s a storm cloud hanging over America that will release its thunder in late June.

That’s when the U.S. Supreme Court is widely expected to declare a constitutional right to same-sex “marriage.”

We are at a moral precipice. America’s Founders could scarcely have imagined a handful of people in black robes becoming so powerful and arrogant that they could defy natural law with the stroke of a pen. The question is: Will they do it?

The drive to radically redefine marriage didn’t happen overnight. It’s the rotten fruit of the sexual revolution’s march through the institutions, along with 50 years of court rulings that pushed atomistic individualism at the expense of the family.

In his monograph “The Supreme Court of the United States versus the American Family,” the late Michael Schwartz noted: “While our legal system was maintaining the fiction that individuals were the only reality, we were living the truth that individuals are all members of families and that families are the real components of society.”

With the culture cut loose since the 1960s from its Christian underpinnings, Schwartz wrote, “the radical individualism that had been latent within our official legal structure is no longer held in check, no longer meets with the healthy resistance that had moderated and humanized it, and it is operating today in a fashion that is radically opposed to family solidarity.”

I really don’t get this. What we’re talking about is who can and cannot purchase caesars cohabitation license. Why would we care? So long as churches and individuals are not forced to conduct ceremonies, caesar can define a legal cohabitation arrangement as involving 3 men, one transgendered dwarf, and a yak.

SCOTUS won’t get the last word.

Genesis 19, despite modernity and a liberal clergy’s protestations, still applies.

“....... I expect to see Polygamy pursued before the end of 2015.”...

Unfortunately you are probably correct.

These so called justices have the opportunity to actually save this country from it’s pending self destruction. Will they miss the boat on this one? Pray that they wake up.

Too bad. Because you don’t get it and you don’t care, you WILL see churches and individuals forced to conduct ceremonies with “3 men, one transgendered dwarf, and a yak.”

Do you honestly believe caesar gives a hoot or holler what Christians think? If so, would you please cite an example in, oh, maybe the last 10 years?

I have to apologize for this post. A FReeper whom I respect pointed out on another thread that this post makes it look like I favor caesars ever evolving view of state “marriage.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I picked my words carefully, but apparently not carefully enough. What we’re talking about here is not marriage as defined by God and his Christian churches, but licensed cohabitation as defined by caesar. Caesar can call it “marriage” or “divine matrimony” or whatever he wants. It doesn’t make it so. And it doesn’t change the underlying truth: this so called “marriage” is a construct of, by, and for caesar. Not of God.

I believe that Christians make a mistake in not actively separating what is meant by the sacrament of marriage from the tax and cohabitation license issued by caesar. Further, we make a big mistake by allowing ourselves to get drawn into caesars intrigues and games. In the end caesar is going to do what caesar wants to do, and isn’t going to care in the least what Christians think about it.
