Not my job. And not my city. If it was, I would vote to reinstate SQ&F. As a commuter, I wish the police had that power.
Unfortunately the government does. Shall not be infringed means just that. When released from jail, the cop shop should return the persons property. Even if said property is a weapon.
Criminals fear armed citizens. They laugh at the police and courts.
I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that there were more murders annually in Manhattan on the various Law & Order shows than there were real murders in Manhattan.
The murder rate per 100,000 people in NYC is lower than that of Tennessee.
Two different arguments. The way NYC stifles the Second sickens me and is why I can’t wait to leave here. But if you’re defending convicted felons from carrying guns for the sole reason of committing crime then it’s a whole other issue.
That was my original point. Criminals were less likely to carry because of the perception of SQ&F. When the media and liberal politicians changed the narrative, the criminals began carrying again. Hence the current situation. It’s still pretty safe, but the perception is only getting worse.
When Rudy took over, there had been over 2000 homicides a year. His last year, 2001, I think it was around 500. If the current trend continues, it should be back to about 2000 by the end of DeBlasio’s term.

That is a straw man argument that you made up.
The issue is law abiding people who wish to be able to defend themselves from the criminals. They are subject to arrest under NY’s draconian gun ban laws simply for having the bad luck to be “Stopped [Questioned] and Frisked”.
If you think convicted felons are the only people being stopped and frisked then you live in a fantasy world.
You're acting like any law abiding citizen is simply stopped on the street on their way to work. It's just not the case. SQ&F is good law. NYC carry laws are not. Two different things.
