Still doesn’t justify using Stop and Frisk. Crapping on the Constitution to drop crime is wrong. The Patriot Act is wrong for the same damn reasons. Why conservatives support Stop and Frisk and the Patriot act is way beyond me.

And violence is way up in Baltimore since the riots there.

What is causing this? Are police And their methods to blame somehow? Is racism involved considering so much of this is black on black crime???

You are less safe in any liberal city.

Which is why I try to avoid them.

I Totally agree. If the only safety measures New Yorkers are willing to accept are fascistic big government tactics they deserve to rot in a crime ridden sewer.

But “broken windows” policing is justified.

Also stopped by DeBlasio.

And if I were a NYC cop, I’d be more of a report-filler-outer than a crime stopper. Why risk my freedom to save the ungrateful?

16 murders in 5 months is still nothing.

We used to have hundreds in that same period and people walked the streets just fine.

You’d need a 1000% increase for NYers to start caring

It’s not Stop and Frisk.

It’s Stop, Question and, if indicated, Frisk.

Big Frisking difference that the opponents NEVER EVER EVER mention.

“they’re going to be missing Rudy.”

I doubt that.

In 2000 there were 673 murders in New York City.

In 2014 there were 328 murders in New York City.

The number of murders has been cut in half since Rudy was mayor.

NYC is still safer than most major cities in the US.

Sorry, but you’re misinformed. The media has twisted what SQ&F is. Is it perfect? No. But the reason it worked so well was the BELIEF by the criminals that the cops were just stopping anyone at random. That made them leave their guns at home or in their car. Now that the media has done its job and vilified the cops as well as taken the teeth out of SQ&F, criminals are carrying again. Drug dealers and pimps or just the guys who like to rob old ladies. This is so far from a 2A issue it’s not even funny. So you may want to rethink your position.

Now they are headed back up to David Dinkins levels. The rate at which crimes are rising is stunning. It’s New York’s own hockey stick.

Interesting. I wonder what the numbers would be if you filtered out Harlem and the lower East side, which tend to be on the sketchy side after hours and on weekends.

I spend most workdays in Manhattan and have yet to witness even a case of violence, never mind a murder. Closest I saw to violence were a couple of bums outside Grand Central yelling at each other about something.

My skin always crawls when I'm around Times Square but never had a problem there either.

What is your source of data to predict that murder rates are going back up to Dinkins levels?

Murder rates are not even on track to reach Rudy levels.

New York is on my list of places to visit at the same priority level of Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Bangladesh.

I remember LOOK or LIFE magazine bemoaning the high murder rate in NYC back in 1968.
