Video indicates Pataki to run for 2016 GOP presidential nomination

Former New York Gov. George Pataki confirmed in a video early Thursday that he would seek the 2016 Republican nomination for president.

The three-and-a-half-minute video posted to his campaign website featured an anti-big government message, "Washington has grown too big, too powerful, too expensive, and too intrusive," and highlighted Pataki's role as governor of New York following the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

"We have always understood that we have a common background and a common destiny, and when we stand together, we can accomplish anything," Pataki says in the video. "I saw that on the streets of New York in the days and weeks after September 11."

At the end of the video, a graphic says, "Pataki for President."

Pataki would be the eighth Republican candidate to announce his run for the White House, and does so one day after former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum launched his second presidential campaign. Pataki was scheduled to speak Thursday in Exeter, N.H., which served as the state capital during the Revolutionary War and claims to be the birthplace of the Republican Party.

Hey GOP candidates! Find something else to do in your retirement years. Golf is nice.

Oh, gosh, now I have to choose between Pataki and Santorum.

And Huckleberry, and Jebbie, and Paul, and Carson, and Fiorina, and Walker.

No wait, there’s one more...

CRUZ!

Problem solved.

How many guys are now running? I think we need to have a few women in the pack………..

I’m suspicious of anyone who wants the job to tell you the truth.

He only got the nomination for the governorship because of Al D’Amato’s backing. D’Amato ain’t around anymore, and Pataki is long forgotten even in New York State. He has no natural alliances.

I’m excited. The only votes Pataki could steal would be from Christie or Jeb.

This only serves to help GOPe. Everyone else is splitting up interest, risking GOPe walking through with its candidate. While I think Cruz is standout, hard to see when he’s buried with 1-4% between him and so many others. So many others...

Oh, I’m not worried about Pataki taking votes from Walker or Cruz. I’m sure all fifteen votes he gets will be from Bush or Christie. It’s the $$ he’ll be taking away from Senate races that’s the problem.

This back stabbing ego maniac thinks he has a chance at the Presidency after being a crappy Gov then being out of the public eye for 10 years? I hope he spends ALL his money on this complete waste of effort.

What are the rules on keeping campaign contributions? I think anyone who is not elected should either 1) return them to donors (using LIFO rule - last in, first out) or 2) turn them over to the National Party for future candidates.

Maybe that would help to stop this sort of nonsense. Pataki can’t seriously think he has any chance.

“[Former governor of NY] Pataki was scheduled to speak Thursday in Exeter, N.H.”

Wait, what? Not going to announce in his own state? Yeah, just continues his long history of betraying those who got him to power.

When running for NY governor, Pataki was strongly backed by the NRA and other staunch right-wing organizations.
Once in power, he immediately proceeded to betray them. Most notably, he facilitated passage of the notorious “assault weapon ban” and related severe anti-gun legislation.
Pataki is the definitive RINO.

I sincerely hope your “who’s excited?!??” line is sarcastic. Would be much more fitting for him to run in the Democrat primary.

Good idea.

On the other hand, any nitwit who donates money to Pataki or Santorum (to name 2 obvious losers) falls into the “fool and his money” category.
