A second person accused Hastert of sexual abuse, official says

dicted former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was paying a former student from Yorkville, Ill., to conceal his alleged sexual abuse of the youth that took place while Hastert was a teacher and wrestling coach at a high school there, federal law enforcement officials said Friday.

A top official, who would not be identified speaking about the federal charges in Chicago, said investigators also spoke with a second person who raised similar allegations that corroborated what the student said.

The second person was not being paid by Hastert, the official said.

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert indicted Federal prosecutors have announced bank-related charges against former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert. The disclosures followed Thursday’s federal indictment against Hastert on suspicion of lying to the FBI about the reasons he made large cash withdrawals, which were allegedly used to buy the man’s silence.

A top federal law enforcement official, who would not be identified speaking about the federal charges, said “Individual A” -- as the unnamed acquittance is described in the indictment -- was a male whom Hastert knew prior to his tenure in Congress.

“It goes back a long way, back to then,” the official said. “It has nothing to do with public corruption or a corruption scandal. Or to his time in office.” Thursday’s indictment described the misconduct “against Individual A” as having “occurred years earlier,” noting that Hastert had known the person “most of Individual A’s life.”

When asked about the nature of Hastert’s alleged misconduct, the law enforcement official said, “It was sex.’’

Hastert has not responded to requests for comment. A representative of the lobbying firm where he had worked, Dickstein Shapiro, declined to comment.

“The question that I would like to know is, where does someone get the balls to run for high office knowing he molested teenaged boys. I mean, what could be going through his mind.”

It worked for him, didn’t it.

What's the big deal?

Bawney Fwank left Congress as a "hero" and he probably d*cked 100 times as many under age boys as Hastert did.

We don’t know enough details here. It was high school. The student could have been 18. We don’t know. That doesn’t excuse the abuse of power or the nastiness of the deed. But it may be short of child molestation. Regardless, at the time the blackmail happened this man was an adult. You don’t get a free pass to break the law just because you were a victim years earlier. If he was so traumatized, why did he continue to meet with Hastert to collect his blackmail money? And how did authorities find out? All they knew was that Hastert was structuring so as to avoid reporting. It looks like the blackmailer collected the money AND told.

When you start to say that the sex is worth $3 million you cross a very bad line. And what about other victims? If he was so harmed why did he not report it to prevent other victims instead of year after year going back for more cash.

Dickstein Shapiro? You can’t make this stuff up.

I have a feeling Denny boy is going to have some fun in prison.

It’s probably in the news because the bank notified the feds of “suspicious activity” by Hastert. The feds found out who he gave the money to and the guy squealed like a pig.

Not seeing the difference. If we hung rapists there would be far fewer rapists.

Yes, but it has been happening over a long period of time.

I guess it took the feds a long time to find the guy who was getting the money. Then he was offered immunity if he’d come forward.

Or they sat on it until they could get some political advantage out of it.

Why has the blackmailer NOT BEEN INDICTED? I have absolutely no problem with indicting and prosecuting Republicans so long is this is not selective indictments of Republicans only, Clinton Foundation would be a good place to start.

It is a big evil. Trying to get financial gain for his earlier “services” is also evil.

I don't think you understand how these "services" work. Educate yourself.

Yeah, I thought of that.

Who benefits from the release of this info?

Hastert has been a private citizen since 2007 IIRC.

Maybe the Gaystapo who can't WAIT to "get" a hypocritical republican.

But really, do they want to go there?

A public school teacher/coach who molests male students?

My guess is that if they really opened that can of worms it would:

A) Make public school teachers look like pikers when compared to Catholic priests.

B) Make gays look like predators, regardless of political party.

I don’t think I have ever heard anyone suggest that the victims of child sexual molestation were providing “services” to their rapist.

GOPe mouthpiece Hugh Hewitt routinely featured David Dreier on his radio show. Hugh Hewitt never once mentioned to his conservative listeners that Dreier has an unconventional lifestyle that they might appreciate knowing about.

This little bit of history copied from wikipedia might be even more interesting in light of today’s news:

“Following the indictment of Tom DeLay on September 28, 2005, Dreier was widely expected to temporarily assume the position of House Majority Leader.[25] Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert favored Dreier for the position, presumably because Dreier has consistently adhered to the views of the Republican leadership and would have been willing to relinquish the title immediately should DeLay have been able to return to the Majority Leader position. However, a conference of rank-and-file Republican representatives disapproved of the choice of Dreier in such a senior position largely because many conservative Republican House members believe that Dreier is too politically moderate”

‘Hastert favored Dreier.’ Imagine that. The pink team really looks out for its own. Maybe we owe the 2005 GOP rank and file some credit.
