No Time for Hillary Scandals -- Every Reporter Everywhere Is Covering the Dennis Hastert Indictment
The National Review -- The Corner ^ | 5-29-15 | Ian Tuttle

Posted on 05/30/2015 2:19:16 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Following a Chicago grand jury’s decision to indict former House speaker Dennis Hastert on charges that he violated federal banking laws by paying $3.5 million to an unnamed person to cover up “past misconduct,” rumors have abounded about what exactly that misconduct might be.

The Washington Post reports now that Hastert “was trying to cover up decades-old allegations that he sexually molested a male victim to whom he recently paid hush money in violation of federal banking laws, according to a federal law enforcement official briefed on the case.”

The misconduct, according to the unnamed source, dates from Hastert’s days as a teacher and wrestling coach in Illinois in the 1980s, but Hastert “is not expected to face any charges relating to the alleged misconduct because authorities don’t believe they have enough corroborating evidence to bring a case against him.”

This is a big story, certainly. Hastert was a leader on the national stage less than a decade ago, and remains a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. Yet one cannot help but observe: Three authors are given a byline for this scoop, and six others are credited with “contributing” to the report. That’s nine Washington Post authors hard at work getting the (legally non-actionable) background to the indictment of a retired congressman.

And it’s not just the Post. ABC News needed six authors to report the same story. The New York Times needed five. Politico needed four.

Would that so much media manpower were devoted to covering current scandal-laden politicians — like, oh, for instance, Hillary Clinton.

Ok, basically a seven-line story....that requires a lot of reporters to devise ways to flip it into a 300-line story. Unless Hastert is doing a sex-change operation as part of the episode, or the blackmailer is a former child star from the 1980s, or there’s a connection between Hastert and the Russian mafia, this is a dead story.

If Republicans ignore this story or even try to defend Hastert, we will get our butts handed to us in ‘16. Many of us have always considered hypocrisy to be one of the most offensive of the many Democrat sins.

Maybe the reason the GOP arrives at so many traitorous compromises with the Dems is because so many of them, especially the leaders, are “conpromised”. ‘Twould be a good time to look back in time to J. Edgar Hoover.

What we’ve seen of Snowden, Manning, Hillary’s FBI files and the retaliatory revelations of philandering by Republicans during the Clinton impeachment proceedings should be enough evidence to make on believe that present Republican leadership ineffectiveness is due in large part to blackmail.

No truer statement than "No time for Hillary Scandals". This is so true and conservatives and GOP should take careful note. I think we set ourselves up for failure if all we do is focus on and harp on Hillary scandals and the ever-present Clinton hate. It is ad nauseum. It is also only of interest to conservatives and GOP. No one else really cares and as it is dismissed, so are conservatives and GOP. As if "is this all they got?" I serious think, and I know it is unpopular, but we should move on. Focus on issues, which is what might chip away at Clinton support. Consider immigration where Clinton has stake out a position even more pro amnesty than Obama, Bush III, and Rubio.

Hastert was covering up 3.5 million.

Hillary laundries 10 times as much or more.

Haster gets 10 times the negative coverage.

The MSM'S version of Fair & Balanced.

What percentage of Republicans do you think would believe their people are being blackmailed? How many of them could even come remotely close to guessing who is doing the blackmailing? I certainly appreciate your post.

The Clintons know that if you deny & lie low long enough, something else will grab the msm & public’s attention.

I promise that for every dollar Hastert "structured", the Clintons structured thousands.

But the "structuring" charge was just the hook; what they want to do is purge their political opponents anywhere and everywhere by painting them as criminals and deviants.

To quote me, "Projection is the sacrament of Leftism."

To be honest, I don’t give a rat’s behind about what Hastert did either. It doesn’t effect me and from what I can tell this all happened before and after his political career. Hastert is not serving in Congress anymore. He’s a lobbyist. Hilary Clinton, OTH, is a money launderer and political whore. She wants to be POTUS.

Yep, they declare everything Hillary to be ‘Old News!’ but rush to cover the political has-been Hastert in the time-tested deflection move. Media needs to die, already.

If the media concentrated on each and every sexual misconduct by EVERY politician in DC, we would never hear anything of real importance.

If Hastert was a Dumocrat or a minority, nobody would say BOO. This Hastert crap is just an effort to divert attention away from CLINTON CORRUPTION...and for now, it's working. Won't last. Issue will die, but the CLINTON CORRUPTION will go on, and on, and on, and on...as usual.
