Former Owner of Texas Funeral Home Gets Prison for Food Stamp Fraud

The former owner of an abandoned North Texas mortuary where bodies were found unattended must serve nearly two years in prison for food stamp fraud. Rachel Hardy-Johnson of Mansfield was sentenced June 9 in Dallas.

In January, Hardy-Johnson pleaded guilty to illegally receiving federal benefits. She was sentenced to 21 months in prison and must repay more than $76,000.

Prosecutors say the woman got married in 2010 but continued claiming to be a single parent with no income. Authorities say Hardy-Johnson owned two businesses and expensive vehicles.

Johnson Family Mortuary in Fort Worth closed last July due to nonpayment of rent. Several bodies at the business were in advanced stages of decomposition.

Hardy-Johnson and her husband, Dondre Johnson, await trial on state charges of theft and abuse of a corpse.

The government needs to get out of the business of subsidizing people.

Every government handout program is loaded with fraud. Disability fraud is bigger than food stamps fraud IMO.

How is it so many vets are walking around with “one hundred percent” disability yet they have two good eyes, two good arms, and two decent legs. I must be one of the few to ever wear the uniform and not have some percent disability declared from it.

Shouldn’t the term 100 percent disabled mean that you cannot hustle and work normally???

Many have heart disease, edema, venous insufficiency, cancers, organ problems, diabetes, tropical diseases or whatever. Any disease or condition known to man can be VA service-connected if it came from your service or caused related illnesses or conditions. Just because someone isn't in a wheelchair, scooter or walker doesn't mean they don't have problems.

22% of gulf vets receive disability payments and most of those do not receive 100%. Most are under 50%. Leave the vets out of this...

On the public golf course Cedarcrest, I know a guy who plays golf 5 days a week, and walks 27 holes each time, sometimes 36 holes. He is on permanent disability due to slightly atrophied left leg due to polio. I am extra mad because he beats me every time!
