HONOLULU (AP) - Two men say they chained themselves to the Queen Liliuokalani statue at the capitol to protest subtle racism against Native Hawaiians that started with the annexation of Hawaii in 1893.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 28-year-old Kaipo Hanakahi and 23-year-old Kainoa Keana'aina wore loincloths and spoke to each other in Hawaiian Wednesday as passersby took photos.

Yeah they use derogatory terms for people who arent authentic enough for them.
Da bruddahs don’ be speakin’ dis Hawaiian jiveazz, dey be speakin’ pidgin to da max!
Would you please quit abusing the Activism sidebar?
Who gave Kamehameha the “right” to conquer all the other islands?
Why was that conquest “legal”, but the US annexation was “illegal”?
Even the “native Hawaiians” subdued an earlier, aboriginal people who lived in the islands.

They just wanted something “exciting” to add to their Facebook page.
We’ll let them go but they have to take King Brock with them.
Excellent questions.
If there was racism on the part of whites towards the Polynesian Hawaiians (I don't doubt there was, but most of what I know comes from James Michener's novel Hawaii), it starts no later than the arrival of the first whites in the islands.
That was my impression - the Hawaiians in Hawaii have a supremacist attitude that exceeds even that of the Japanese tourists.
How about halfrican choom-gangers?
Many Hawaiian ‘ locals ‘ are among the most shameless racists going . It’s and open unconcealed joke with them . They don’t like ‘ haoles ‘ ( whites ) the don’t like popolos ( blacks) ,the don’t like Pake ( Chinese) the don’t like Japs ( japs) and the don’t like the new hispanics ( beaners). For them to decry ‘ racism ‘ against Hawaiians is joke . Bunch of hypocrite whiners.... they just don’t want anyone to take exception to their overt and blatant racism .Pot calling kettle black.... oh ! ps : they don’t like the more recent other south Pacific islanders( micros).....
Read “ A Shoal in Time “ by Gavin Dawes .
Queen Lilioukalani was about to abrogate and anul the legal and active Hawaiian Kingdom Constitution and force a return to an absolute monarchy . The people , ALL the people , except her syncophants were not about to let that happen . Foreign troops intervention / stabilization just happened to come from US forces. It could have just as well been Brit , French or even Russians . Queen L’s brother , King David Kalakua was trying his best to link into the Japanese Imperial dynasty .....bottom line was that the Hawaiian NEVER made decent government administrators. It is the grace of God that Hawaii ultimatelybecame part of the UnitedStates . Todays soveriengty activists are a mob of morons .
Yep....
Sad to see that intrusion. "Jawaiian" music (Jamaican/Hawaiian) has ruined easy listening for me.
The "Separatists" produced a catchy number, simultaneously recording Separatists' voices on different islands. The video is all in Hawaiian, including the customary short "chant" that precedes the production. They are interviewed separately in other YT videos. The best and "worst" singers are University professors, who specialize in Hawaiian history.
Yes, they want their sovereignty back, and this production punctuates it with scenes of barbed wire, warnings of stored chlorine gases, traffic, warships (behind "native" Glen Smith), and other woes that came from the United States. A recurring Hawaiian word throughout these songs is the word a'ina (eye'nah), which means "our nation". Those who have experienced Hawaiian music of the last 20 years may like it. And, as I enjoy Hawaiian music, I like it!

On the ballot for the next general election in Hawaii should be a referendum for sovereign independence. Let the people decide.
