See my comment at #16. Tell me where Walker has failed in addressing abortion.

He's not talking about governing, which comes after winning an election.

AMEN to that! THAT'S the issue. You focus on the issues on which voters are dialed in.

Yep. The Culture War is over, and we got routed. Better to focus on areas that are still winnable.

This is like saying we were trying to stop someone from cutting their foot off, and they won.

I am of the opinion that Financial stability is impossible without social stability. If there is no commonly accepted morality regarding theft or the value of life, then no person's money is safe, and neither is their person.

How can I be wrong with the qualifier “to me”? You are entitled to your opinion. We have been there, done that with McCain and Romney. But hey, time will tell. I am speaking for me. His position is a deal breaker.

Exactly. He’s very good at picking his battles, and in not going for every “when did you quit beating your wife” question the media throws out, knowing there is nothing to be gained from playing their game.

Besides, many social issues are based on faith or personal values anyway, and any politician is unlikely to be able to change anyone’s faith or values, so why try? Instead, stick to those things like economics that an elected official can impact, and let the voters decide if you’re the right man for the job.

All politics IS LOCAL and is based on economics.. Iraq/Iran /Saudi suburbia etc are a long way away. Important sure. But not as important as a job or a full dinner table.

"We’re dealing with a center-left America now..."

So now we know that Karl Rove's freeper handle is "ScottinVA." That simply is not true. The country is still center-right, but the GOPe wing of the party keeps running Democrat-lite and expecting different results. Contrary to your other assertion, every Republican candidate in recent memory has shied away from "social issues", and they've had their heads handed to them as a result. Why? The data clearly show it's because they alienated CONSERVATIVES and conservative-leaning independents.

The way to win the White House again is by being boldly conservative and explaining why conservatism is superior to liberalism, not by surrendering and mimicking liberals.

This was not a bold social conservative statement, except in the sense that he was admitting, just what he said, and what conservatives feared about him.

He is distancing himself from conservatism, something that conservatives have always suspicioned, and he seems to be making it more open.

What you dismiss as "social issues" are the very foundational issues that America depends upon

Once again.. I'm not dismissing their importance. But a viable candidate is going to have think and act tactically about them. Candidates who'd like to get elected will enact their social issues agenda once hired for the position. The defeatist attitude resides with those who insist on following a failed path to winning an election. If you are going to employ a losing strategy, what the hell is the point of running in the first place?

We have been there, done that with McCain and Romney

And we've also gone the other route with Santorum most recently, and earlier Gary Bauer. Remind me how THAT all worked out.

Look at my post on #16. Do Walker's positions look like "surrendering and mimicking liberals" to you? He's not only laid his markers on abortion, he's taken concrete action in WI about it. WTH else do you want???

THIS is what I what in a POTUS.

ACTS 5:27-29

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Interesting, as you want to convince us that we aren’t seeing Walker’s words here, you also mock social conservatives.

Mocking social conservative-ism and conservatives is no way to convince us that your weak attempts to defend him on the question, are of any value.

Got it, folks. Put the social issues in the forefront and vehemently condemn any candidate who doesn’t. President Santorum will attest to how well it’s all worked out.

Wrong. Tell me how losing an election gives you the opportunity to enact conservative social policies.

Sidelining social issues is a loser on FR. Scotty must not have gotten the memo. He sounds like he is channeling his Rand Paul side. :-)
