I remember all of this and I was impressed with Jeb’s interference, but I also remember thinking it was a political move .... and my feelings were (for me) justified when he didn’t call out the NG ala Gov Wallace of years ago who took a principled stand.

The reason I’m not voting for Jeb Bush has nothing to do with Terri Schiavo. He has much, much bigger issues where he is very clearly on the wrong side.
I’m glad to hear that he stood with her. I wonder if he could indulge us 2 curiosities:
- who did he stand *against*?
- where is *she* standing now?

He did, actually, but in the end he wouldn’t break the law because he was afraid it would end with a shoot out.
Jim King, the powerful GOP Senate President (an episcopalian) prevented the specially written law from passing.
When I was standing outside the hospital, there was a rumor that Jeb was sending the State Police to rescue her. But then the local sheriff and police chief (at least one a Scientologist, and both of them from places entirely controlled by Scientologists) appeared and one of them said literally that the officers were under orders to block the doors and prevent entry.
Few people know this because there were very few demonstrators there, and the press clearly wanted to hide it. Remember, she died before aggressive internet reporting was born.
Bush did what he could. He had a hostile judge, hostile legislative leaders, and hostile police forces. She only stayed alive as long as she did because he kept fighting it in the courts.
I wouldn’t vote for him in the primaries because he’s too conciliatory to the Dems and I don’t like some of his ideas. But I honestly think he did what he could without provoking a battle and a constitutional crisis,
“Stood” is euphemism for letting her die by thirst,
