The Last Rebels: 25 Things We Did As Kids That Would Get Someone Arrested Today
Orangic Prepper ^ | June 16, 2015 | Daisy Luther

With all of the ridiculous new regulations, coddling, and societal mores that seem to be the norm these days, it’s a miracle those of us over 30 survived our childhoods.

Here’s the problem with all of this babying: it creates a society of weenies.

There won’t be more more rebels because this generation has been frightened into submission and apathy through a deliberately orchestrated culture of fear. No one will have faced adventure and lived to greatly embroider the story.

Kids are brainwashed – yes, brainwashed – into believing that the mere thought of a gun means you’re a psychotic killer waiting for a place to rampage.

They are terrified to do anything when they aren’t wrapped up with helmets, knee pads, wrist guards, and other protective gear.

Parents can’t let them go out and be independent or they’re charged with neglect and the children are taken away.

My Dad gave would give me a pack of cigarettes when we were little for lighting fire crackers on the forth of July.
Me and my two sisters were all smoking and having a great big bang of a time until we eventually got dizzy and petered out.
Dad was a genius.

Ha ha ha!!! yep them and many more.
We used to play a game called “Kill the Carrier”.
(Truth be told, the catholic school kids played this on a fenced in asphalt parking lot)
After school. on the big field. . . ball or other item to “carry” was thrown into the air.
One brave soul would catch it and try to run around the field. Upwards of 100 kids would gang up & try to “kill the carrier” by tackling, tripping, clothes-lining or any other evil action one could imagine to stop the runner.
One of the great players of the day was (gasp!) a smokin’ hot GIRL!

Excellent!

The first rifle I bought my (now teenaged) son was an old Ithaca Model 49. It’s an excellent and safe ‘starter’ gun. Ours is also incredibly accurate. All in all, a wonderful and well-made weapon.

“Playing “King of the Jungle” on the merry-go-round - throwing kids off of it as it spun around. (The school ended up taking it down).”

Here’s the modern version of that.

Motorcycles and merry-go-rounds make such a great combo!

I remember being about 10 or 11 years old running on top of a number of Rock Island railroad (aka the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad) cars that were parked on a side rail line close to where I lived while the company was in bankruptcy and had stopped all operations a year or two before. All of us neighborhood friends had a blast doing that together.

My Mom never knew I was doing that, but if she found out I had there might have been hell to pay.

When I was growing up in Miami, Florida, we carried .22 rifles on the city busses. Now they would call the SWAT team.

Yes, I put a knife blade into my foot playing it... fortunately, no stitches required.

I did many crazy things when I was young, definitely everything on the list of 25 and much more.

What’s up with this? People living in hermetically sealed houses, and not letting their children eat dirt like healthy children?

This was in the 50’s.e lived in a small town in northern South Dakota. No tv and no Whamos. We made our own. Old inner tubes from the tire shop and the tongue from an old shoe. The bands came from old inner tubes that the tire shop gave us.
It was a different time.

Did all those things...shooting at stuff with a .22..blowing up ant hills with fire crackers.

My brother hurt his arm playing dirt clod wars with the other kids. Mom took him to the doctor at the base, Doc asked what happened, my brother said he got hurt playing army. Doc said..”good thing you weren’t playing Air Force”.

Had good times growing up back then.
