GETTYSBURG (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service began removing Confederate flag merchandise from its bookstores and gift shops on Thursday, joining a nationwide push by lawmakers and retailers to remove the emblem, long associated with the fight to preserve slavery.

Kathy Kupper, a national parks spokeswoman, said she doesn't know how many parks had previously sold Confederate flag merchandise, but about 70 of the organization's 407 parks are related to the American Civil War.

“We strive to tell the complete story of America,” National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a press release. “Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores.”

No surprise and correct decision. If you went to Auschwitz would you expect to see Nazi memorabilia for sale?

There's a statue of Andrew Jackson across the street from the WH in the center of Lafayette Park (Why not Lafayette, I dunno) The liberals want to tear down the Jefferson Memorial, but the statue of Jackson is never mentioned....................

Will have to rename Arlington cemetery since Robert E. Lee lived there when it was an estate.

I’m waiting for somebody to complain about Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Va. Jefferson Davis, George Pickett, Fitzhugh Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, are among the more well know burials there. Plus there is a special burial spot holding unknown Confederate dead. What the people calling for all these changes are ignorant of, is that a large number of Confederate leaders and officers had served, or were serving this country in uniform prior to the beginning of the war.

Employees of Kennesaw Mountain Civil War park are Tweeting out pictures of the forced removal of the Battle Flag against the publics will by order of The Department of the Interior.

It’s time to start erasing the erasers.

This once great land has lost its way. The powers to be condemn ISIS and the TALIBAN for destroying ancient temples and seeking to eliminate any prior civilization that is counter to their cause. Can any of you state what is now happening with our own history any different from what ISIS or the TALIBAN have done in their rush to cleanse their history?

On my mother’s side, our family goes back to 1635 in Virginia. Our family history has a number of relatives that fought for and against the Confederate States of America. To this date, our family still has a small dairy farm on the Shenandoah and our family has a graveyard that overlooks the Valley that holds hallowed remains of six of my relatives who died during that struggle. I am ashamed of what has happened to my country, and the attempts to TALIBANIZE our history by the radicals in charge.

The mayor of the most dangerous city in America is worried about two dead people and a statue?

But then, priorities, priorities!

It doesn’t matter that the Dems were responsible. At all.

Just as the KKK is held up as contemptible (and rightly so) yet the New Black Panthers, etc., are given legitimacy and allowed to threaten to massacre whites - for being white.

"What next? -abolish the practice of Civil War re-enactments?"

They will probably force them to change the name of the house Lee used as his Headquarters on Seminary Ridge. In the future it will be called The Headquarters for He Who Shall Not Be Named."

They'll have to tear down the Custis-Lee Mansion.
