The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism.... I don't think so.

The feds were charging large tariffs on all goods and raw material going into and exporting from the South.

They were charging the same tariff on goods going into the North, too. And there was no tariff on exports. The Constitution forbids that.

Entirely untrue, but I applaud your effort.

Even if you had your facts right, the Constitution quite clearly and explicitly places the matter of tariffs in the hands of the federal Congress.

It can't even be pretended that the states were empowered to make such decisions.

“The fact that the federal government has become a nihilistic monstrosity does not, believe it or not, mean that Jeff Davis and Bobby Lee were right to secede in their day on those issues. Nor does the fact that they were wrong in their day mean that secession can never be the right thing to do. “

Shades of grey? Where is your line in the sand? When have they crossed the Rubicon?

You're right: but the left declared war against the Lord from the very beginning.

The irony of the debate over secession is this: both the Northern and Southern states were very free for whites before 1861 - the federal government was weak as a kitten, and that enraged Southerners.

They demanded, and got, a federal task force to track down and imprison everyone nationwide who was suspected of being an escaped slave, no trial or habeas corpus necessary.

Then they seceded when it looked like their new task force might not be so effective under a GOP administration.

Their new Constitution stripped the states of the Confederacy of a power that each of the United States had: the power to decide whether or not to be a slave state.

Then, when they realized that the war they started wasn't going to end in weeks and was going to be a lot tougher than they imagined, they started all kinds of things not seen before in the country: conscription, martial law, etc.

As a result of secession, Americans both North and South got used to a lot more federal intrusion than they ever had before.

And yet some states had abolished slavery long before 1865 when the 13th Amendment abolished it nationwide.
1652—Rhode Island passes laws restricting slavery and forbidding enslavement for more than 10 years.
1758—Pennsylvania Quakers forbid their members from owning slaves or participating in the slave trade.
1777—Vermont is the first of the thirteen colonies to abolish slavery and enfranchise all adult males.
1780—Pennsylvania begins gradual emancipation.
1780—A freedom clause in the Massachusetts constitution is interpreted as an abolishment of slavery. Massachusetts enfranchises all men regardless of race.
1787— Slavery is illegal in the Northwest Territory.
1799—Slavery is abolished in New York.
1802—Slavery is abolished in Ohio.
1816—Slavery is abolished in Indiana.
1818—Slavery is abolished in Illinois.
1820— Slavery is illegal north of the southern border of Missouri.
1820—Maine abolishes slavery.
1837—Michigan abolishes slavery.
1846— Slavery abolished in New Jersey.
1848—Slavery is abolished in Connecticut.
1857— All persons living in New Hampshire are citizens regardless of race.

I am not talking about legal slavery. I am talking about how the blacks were thought of in the 19th century. People think they were treated like animals which is totally wrong. The owners of slaves treated their slaves like children. Children that never really grew up and you had to feed, clothe, house and take care of thru old age. It was more responsibility than being a parent. Once a slave reached old age they were no longer required to do stoop labor. The mainly did sewing or light maintenance, or no work at all except to cook for their own..

Some parents beat, emotionally abuse and sexually molest their children.

An excerpt from President Lincoln’s second inaugural address: “If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives to both North and South this terrible war as the woe due to those by whom the offense came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a living God always ascribe to Him? Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”

Some parents beat, emotionally abuse and sexually molest their children.

True statement. And 99.9 % of parents don't.

I wish that was true.
“Spare the rod, spoil the child” was the norm in the 19th century. The rape of enslaved women created a whole new race: mulattos.
