CNN/ORC Poll: Bush, Trump rising nationally for GOP, but both trail Clinton
CNN ^ | 07/01/2015 | By Jennifer Agiesta, CNN Polling Director

With nearly all of the expected 2016 presidential candidates formally in the race, a new CNN/ORC national poll finds two recent entrants to the GOP field on the rise, while Hillary Clinton maintains her position atop the Democratic field, though holding a slightly slimmer lead.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and businessman Donald Trump top the list of GOP presidential contenders following their back-to-back campaign launches in mid-June, and are the only two Republican candidates holding double-digit support among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents.

Clinton, though, continues to lead all GOP candidates in head-to-head general election match-ups.

Bush stands at 19%, up from 13% in May -- and his best showing in CNN/ORC polling since December. Trump follows at 12%, up from 3% before his announcement. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (8%), neurosurgeon Ben Carson (7%) and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (7%) round out the top five.

Notably absent from this top five -- though statistically speaking not far behind -- are Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (6%, down from 14% in May) and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (6%, down slightly from 10%). Both had been top five candidates in each of the last two CNN/ORC polls, and Walker had been in the top five since February.

The poll, conducted just before New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie formally launched his campaign with a rally in Livingston, New Jersey, on Tuesday, also finds that Christie begins his push for the presidency with just 3% support.

Name ID trumps all else in early polling data.

No pun intended.

Oh, I know. The American people are crying out for Hillary, demanding Hillary. She's the people's choice, the Choice of a New Generation.

No matter who the pollsters are, the fact that anybody could obtain a result showing this lyin’ POS ahead of anybody speaks volumes for the stupidity of the general public.

Clinton would lead if she were tried and convicted of child molestation.

Such is what is left of this country.

And Hillary rejoices.

Not surprised Walker not gaining traction. I like the guy and think he would be a good president; however, I find that his interviews are the same answers over and over again. The primary voter is generally a “higher I” voter and wants more than a soundbite

I don’t know.

Even the Bushes are starting to look good after eight long years of BHO.

The GWB economy was fairly prosperous (at least for me and my family) except the last year in 2008. The Dem propaganda machine would have us believe the entire eight years of the GWB Administration was like 2008. I also recall the Dems taking control of both houses of Congress in 2006. It was pretty much all downhill from there for GWB.

The Dems are the masters of propaganda and spin. To this day they maintain FDR rescued us from the Great Depression. Truth is the Depression worsened and was made longer due to FDR’s policies.

Hearing rumors that Biden could very well get in.

I think he, far more than any of the others running in the Dem primaries, could give Bonnie and Clod a run for their money.

Republican pollster Frank Luntz is actually the person who suggested changing from “global warming” to “climate change,” and he made the suggestion in a memo to conservatives explaining how they can better communicate their position on the issue.
