Confederate flags still fly at Daytona International Speedway
News 13 ^ | 7-4-2015 | Bailey Myers

DAYTONA BEACH --

NASCAR stirred up controversy this week when officials announced that fans should turn over their confederate flags for the Stars and Stripes, but some fans are still showing up with their flags.

"We have the stars and bars...But the tallest flag out there is the stars and stripes. The way it ought to be,” said local NASCAR fan Jim Higginbotham.

Higginbotham said he’s proud to be American and a southerner.

"I see that flag I don't see racism at all I see southern pride,” he said.

Higginbotham isn't alone. Hundreds of flags were flying high above the crowds at the Daytona International Speedway. Some of the flags read "Heritage not Hate" on the front.

Speedway officials did offer to swap stars and bars for stars and stripes, but the Speedway didn't collect any on Friday and didn’t say if they collected any on the Fourth.

"I think they are getting rid of a little bit of history... But frankly it is the 4th of July so if we are going to fly any flag why not just the American flag?" said local NASCAR fan Steve Laszlo.

At first, all the focus on the Confederate battle flag didn't make much sense beyond the usual need to blame something, but I forgot about that "never let a crisis go to waste" thing.

Now, GuvCo's offensive against the flag makes more sense, at least from a PTB/oligarchy point of view.

For many who display it, the Confederate flag has nothing to do with slavery or race.

For them, it was and still is a symbol of rebellion against a distant, tyrannical government imposing its will. It's the Rebel Flag.

Well, check the view screen, Uhura. Those days are here again.

I can definitely see why GuvCo needs to make sure the Rebel flag doesn't become a popular symbol to rally around and why they're taking advantage of this opportunity to turn their weapons of choice against it.

It's their same old same old when it comes to symbols we look up to and are inspired by, no matter what or who the symbol might be.

If the progressives can't infiltrate, compromise and claim it, they trash, destroy and banish all traces of its good from the collective dialog.

The Rebel flag is their latest target and they just re-named it "Will".

My former pet peeve was when folks meant ‘concrete’ but said ‘cement.’ (cement is a fine gray powder)
******************
I’m with you ,, people don’t realize that asphalt is normally used as a concrete with aggregate... cement based concrete isn’t the only kind, concrete is not just a noun it’s a verb.

Good morning, mcmuffin! I had to laugh when I saw this news report. Ch. 13 is very liberal and probably horrified to see even one of those flags at the raceway.

Americans have never liked to be told what to do, and as a rule don't... let-em fly

The confusion between the battle flag and the Stars and Bars simply demonstrates the ignorance of most of these protesters. It pains me a little.

Bill France is doing his best to kill NASCAR. From IROC cars to this latest debacle over the flag. Dumb bastard doesn’t even remember who his fans are or he doesn’t care anymore with all the sponsor money flowing in. As a lifelong fan I find myself watching less and less every year. Haven’t seen more than one this year, cant’ stand the commercials every five minutes.

“A friend of mine put the Bonnie Blue flag on the front of her car. First question she got asked was, “You a cowboys fan?”..”

I went out and purchased a Bonnie Blue flag but I live in an HOA development and I haven’t had the courage to put it outside yet. I also thought most people would assume it was a cowboy’s flag since I live in Texas.

Naw, it means that an Air Force brigadier general lives in your house.

Just...kidding...!

Anyway, the Bonnie Blue flag and the original Stars and Bars still manage to stay under the radar of the offended classes.

No joke, I once had to drive a USAF B.G. around our field site & it took forever to locate a blue background one star plate to go on the HUMMV.

Is that on I-4 @ I-75? I’ve seen it and love it! Though I don’t recall seeing it back in May when I was there. Must have missed it that time.

Put it out. all they can do is tell you to take it down..

Sidenote: I will NEVER live anywhere there is an HOA. IMO, they are comprised of people who were picked on in high school and are now in a position of power to make peoples lives as miserable as they can to make up for the past.

With very few additions, the current Georgia flag is almost an exact duplicate of the stars and bars, yet there is no uproar. I find it humerous they replaced the state flag with one which is more confederate than the one they had, with the blessing of the esteemed perpetually offended class..

historically, the confederate battle flag represents rebellion against federal tyranny

and in a country that supposedly prides itself in free speech, regardless of who is insulted (ie: jerry falwell).. there should be absolutely no issue flying whatever flag you want.

if you say the confederate flag offends due to racism... then you should also be adamantly against the fag flag, which deeply offends tens of millions ... but the libs won't.

the push to ban the confederate flag is just another example of out of control federal govt

I’ve lived in HOAs....put it in a window...you don’t want to start a war among neighbors over this...believe me....now, political signs are another story. We successfully challenged rule that said we could NOT have them...for at least a time right before election.

Same here in Mo. I’ve also been in banking for 30+ years & never before Wednesday did a customer come in wearing a Confederate cap. People are about fed up.

I have very nice neighbors and I am concerned about them feeling that there is a racial component to displaying the flag but it isn’t. It is all about the government trying to have complete control over my life. Before I retired I would always talk about loosing our rights. I tried to warn the younger generation that they were giving too much power to the government and we would wind up like Communist China telling us what to wear, what to eat, where to work and what to believe. Today I probably would be fired for talking like that.
I took the flag out and ironed it but still am uncertain about what to do.
