President Trump' May Not Be So Far-Fetched - And the Polls Scare the Establishment to death
Fox News ^ | July 10, 2015 | Geoff Earle

WASHINGTON — Republicans who started off viewing Donald Trump as an amusing sideshow are starting to fret that the real-estate billionaire is becoming the main event.

Since he defied skeptics and launched his presidential bid last month, Trump has rocketed in the polls, dominated media coverage and helped steer the debate on issues.

“I don’t know that he even knows how far he takes this,” former New York GOP Rep. Thomas Reynolds, who is close to GOP candidate and ex-Gov. George Pataki, told The Post. “He has the wherewithal . . . He has put together a pretty wholesale ground force in New Hampshire, and that has to be taken seriously.”

Maybe, but he respects the Constitution.

He can also pull in lots of independents and young people. A pure social conservative can’t do that.

Probably more of a VP then Presidential material.

Going to be a lot of turns in this road. The country is desperate for good leadership.

Trump has already said that he would grant amnesty to all that have jobs.

I didn’t want to be brash and say it, but Trump is largely saying “Shove it” to quite a few people.

If Trump is so anti-establishment answer me one question: Why did he endorse Romney in 2012.

Why did any number of decent Americans, including the owner of this very site?

Because we were given no choice. You know that.

No one here is claiming that Trump's a conservative. Hell, who really knows where this guy's at, politically?

What we do know about Trump is that,

1. He loves his country.
2. He's as sick to death of the leftwing destruction of America as any of us are.
3. He's got a track record as a doer, not a talker.
4. He's unafraid to say the things that most Americans are thinking.
5. He's too rich to be bought by anyone.
6. He's a formidable player of high level, high stakes games.
7. He doesn't pander to anyone, and is unmoved by others' 'hurt feelings'.
8. He's the undisputed boss in whatever sphere he controls.
9. If punched, he punches back harder.
10. He can't be controlled by the GOP-e.

The man's got some famous shortcomings, as well, but in times as perilous as these, heroes may come with warts. Lord knows, some of the most admired heroes in American history were rough around the edges.

What Trump has done over the course of just a week, is akin to moving an iceberg with a rowboat. The man has literally turned the entire political establishment on its head, and is driving the national conversation and the attention of a whole continent.

Who have you ever seen do such a thing?

Nobody here knows his REAL worth; he has always lied about it.

But I truly know his history......going waaaaaaaaaaaay back; including some of the skeletons.

I agree and to all who are saying he’s faking this, hell, some people seem peeved enough to resort to violence over the stuff he’s saying. Okay, we can hear the Jorge Ramos’ and hear about protesters; but it could get more serious.

I think enthusiasm for Trump ought to be held in check. The years of consistent deterioration under Obama may lead to an overreaction as a result of feeling good about direct verbiage vs. mincing words and preening, or wishing to shove the unfettered truth down liberal pie holes. I don’t have a particular candidate I favor at this time, but I somehow sense Trump does not have a truly deep understanding and appreciation of our founding documents and principles. How essential is that to being President? I’d say that’s fairly high on the list. That is not to say Trump has not come around in that regard. I just look at his recent past, which is not much steeped in conservative principles.

“You really support Trump? He’s never running anyway. If he did the media has enough info on him Hillary could get past 70%.”

I do support Trump. Largely by default there isn’t really anybody else.
On a more pessimistic note I don’t think he’ll get the nomination. I think Jeb will be the eventual candidate.
Jeb will lose in the general election but so will any other Republican. So as long as Trump is calling attention to the issues that the biggest priorities for me then yes I’ll support him.

I think if Trump won the nomination, a big IF, he’d probably get someone from the South or Southwest. I think a Cruz, as discussed here last night, would probably be a good choice and appeal to Hispanics too. Maybe there are other possible good veep choices that we don’t know about, I certainly did not know who Governor Palin was in ‘06.

That is, if Trump doesn’t continue burning bridges in discussing other Republicans.

“Trump has already said that he would grant amnesty to all that have jobs.”

He never said that and you know it. He said hardworking illegals would not be deported. Never uttered the word amnesty and you know it.
