That’s true. 70-80% of confederate soldiers didn’t even own slaves. They were fighting to defend their homes from invaders. And considering the pillaging, raping, and burning done by the Union armies in their marches through the South, I would say they were justified.

I think it’s safe to say that once someone starts firing weapons they are no longer a “protestor”

Under the circumstances we live under maybe we should call them "Patriots". Maybe the time has come.

Virginia voted against immediate secession in early April 1861. After Lincoln called for troops to subjugate the South, Gov. Letcher issued the following proclamation:

Whereas, Seven of the States formerly composing a part of the United States have, by authority of their people, solemnly resumed the powers granted by them to the United States, and have framed a Constitution and organized a Government for themselves, to which the people of those States are yielding willing obedience, and have so notified the President of the United States by all the formalities incident to such action, and thereby become to the United States a separate, independent and foreign power; and whereas, the Constitution of the United States has invested Congress with the sole power “to declare war,” and until such declaration is made, the President has no authority to call for an extraordinary force to wage offensive war against any foreign Power: and whereas, on the 15th inst., the President of the United States, in plain violation of the Constitution, issued a proclamation calling for a force of seventy-five thousand men, to cause the laws of the United states to be duly executed over a people who are no longer a part of the Union, and in said proclamation threatens to exert this unusual force to compel obedience to his mandates; and whereas, the General Assembly of Virginia, by a majority approaching to entire unanimity, declared at its last session that the State of Virginia would consider such an exertion of force as a virtual declaration of war, to be resisted by all the power at the command of Virginia; and subsequently the Convention now in session, representing the sovereignty of this State, has reaffirmed in substance the same policy, with almost equal unanimity; and whereas, the State of Virginia deeply sympathizes with the Southern States in the wrongs they have suffered, and in the position they have assumed; and having made earnest efforts peaceably to compose the differences which have severed the Union, and having failed in that attempt, through this unwarranted act on the part of the President; and it is believed that the influences which operate to produce this proclamation against the seceded States will be brought to bear upon this commonwealth, if she should exercise her undoubted right to resume the powers granted by her people, and it is due to the honor of Virginia that an improper exercise of force against her people should be repelled. Therefore I, JOHN LETCHER, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, have thought proper to order all armed volunteer regiments or companies within this State forthwith to hold themselves in readiness for immediate orders, and upon the reception of this proclamation to report to the Adjutant-General of the State their organization and numbers, and prepare themselves for efficient service. Such companies as are not armed and equipped will report that fact, that they may be properly supplied.

Uh, I don’t remember studying the Confederate constitution in school. I think they’re protesting against the abridgement of their First Amendment rights.

Its a an army battle flag...its not the Confederacy national flag...its not its Stars and Stripes.. its the South version of the Gadsden flag and carries a similar message for many in the south...

That being said that the honor of all these flag need to be protected if you want to keep them...you do not stand around and let a KKK or Nazi or groups like them co-opt them...

Please post the “not this s**t again”.

The reasons for the civil war were many. The slave issue was akin to the Obama , everyone’s a racist .”

There’s been many other posters here at FR who have dissected your simplification and association, and have done it much better than I’d be able.

So what’s your point?

Well as a point of accuracy...there isnt a “the” confederate flag...there were several....and many regiments flew their own flags as well...

The one some commonly associate with the confederacy is the Battle flag of the northern Viginia Regiment Under Lee’s command, and was never a national flag of the confederate states.

I don’t know who organized this but we need to clone them. So many say “tell me when and where and I’ll be there” but we lack the community organizer type leadership of the left.

WHY THE REGIME PICKED ON THE CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG AND NOT ROOF’S MANIFESTO

Because it was under threat of questioning and possible impeachment proceedings by its so called political opposition the regime needed to defer or stop any movement toward this. It was necessary to use a political device usually atrributed to Saul Alinsky but used by the nazi and commie’s like Stalin with the “Kulacks” through racial division.

Through the use of the “Bully Pulpit”. POTUS created persons engaged in felonious assults on authority who were black youths into; “Victims of an evil society” (thus approving their actions) out of whole cloth.

The regime began with the Zimmerman case which resulted in a series of assults by black youths on completely innocent whites,”hispanics”, and asians who were either targeted or wandered near or through black gang infested areas. The perpetators excuse; The reported “cold blood killing of Treyvon Martin because he was black”

It led to a score or more deaths and serious injuries which were treated as local news ignored and forgotten. Including a young Austrailian champion runner vacationing here staying with relatives on holiday in the US that was murdered while jogging near a black area. There were about a score (20) or more of such incidents. And each was met with silence while this was happening. Neither the locqatious POTUS or his political opposition uttered as much as a “Now!,Now! or a “tsk!,tsk!” ..

Those killings were referenced by the Charleston Church massacre perpetrator in his crazed manifesto.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3302529/posts

Naturally when it was discovered that mention of those score of murders were used in this nut cases’s “manifesto” the reaction was....“Well we can’t let that out.

Oh ! His face book has him holding a Confederate battle flag.,That flag by the way was never displayed by the KKK in their marches. It was allways the Stars and Stripes and when South Carolina governor Earnest Hollings ordered it displayed to protest desegregation in the 60’s it was misused as an insult to blacks. Where it remained flying on the state capitol flag pole until this year.

Not mentioning the Roof manifesto begs the question if Obama had not proceeded with this perverse “progressive” agenda which ended up up with scores of killings. Would this “wacko” have had that excuse .?

Perverting what the Confederate battle flag’s represents at the same time diverts any attention to the regimes complicity in engendering those previous racial incidents unanswerable for those deaths..

While some talk show hosts acknowledge there’s racial rhetoric of division being used by the regime. They have yet to acknowledge and identify the political objective of its use of (racial) division. Which is permitting unimpeded continuation of the destruction of the constitution.

THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
by Rudyard Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

They were not easily moved,
They were icy — willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.

So you realize the US started with slavery profited off of it ? Yet denied the South the right to go free. It was over money and power. Get a clue.

Yeah, if you read it, you will find that the Confederate constitution is taken word for word from the US Constitution in most parts. But they made the wise decision of fixing certain clauses that have been abused.

was it wise to add Article 1 Section 9 clause 4?

The Corwin amendment passed by US Congress and submitted to the states for ratification:

No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.

The US government was prepared to place slaves in a perpetual state of slavery to induce the South to stay in the Union.
