Chait: ‘Irrational’ Trump Has Destroyed GOP Establishment’s Amnesty Plan
breitbart.com ^ | 7/16/15

From Jonathan Chait writing at New York magazine:

The last Republican nominating contest was dominated by a succession of increasingly pathetic protest candidates — Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum — serving as placeholders with whom conservative activists could register their amorphous rage. The experience has instilled justifiable caution among reporters, some of whom (myself included) overstated the depth of support for the spoilers. We have all been predisposed to treat Donald Trump as a sideshow, and he certainly has done nothing to make himself a plausible candidate to win the Republican nomination. But Trump has made himself an important factor. His effect on the race to date has been larger — and, from the Republican standpoint, more damaging — than anybody expected.

The GOP’s most important strategic imperative was to structure its nominating contest so as to narrow the gap between its core voting base and the immigrant communities, especially Latino ones, it needs to regain national parity. The first and most important element of that plan was to pass comprehensive immigration reform, taking the issue off the table. That plan collapsed in 2014. The second element of the plan involved imposing some structure and control over their presidential debates, to avoid the 2012 debacle in which candidates competed with each other for the most draconian stance on immigration. No more electrified fences or self-deportation.

To see just how badly Trump has screwed up the intentions of the party elders, consider the results of a new Washington Post poll. Since his inflammatory comments describing immigrants as criminals, Trump’s favorable rating among Republicans has surged.

We're already seeing finger in the wind oligarchs like Jeb Bush give lip service to ending sanctuary cities.

Apparently the "acts of love" and "DREAMER" talking points have no traction.

And their great moderate hope is in danger of losing momentum towards the nomination.

Since his inflammatory comments describing immigrants as criminals

They are not undocumented and they are not immigrants.

They are illegal aliens.
They usually have documents in multiple names.
Fraudulent documents.
They are fraudulently documented foreigners.

They are not immigrants. To call them that is an insult to everyone who applied to be an American, waited their turn, learned the language, paid their fees and complied with the laws.

Make no mistake, The RNC intends to nominate an amnesty candidate.

Most of the GOP is owned by The Cheap Labor Express.

Well, when a candidate is not afraid to speak the truth on illegal immigration, what do you expect?

We the people are staggering under the burden of the costs of illegal immigration, while the political class seems to be working feverishly to bestow ever more generous rewards on illegals. The politicians forget why they are elected.

Almost every article/column, needs that very same correction.

I noticed that omission straight away!

I’m not a big fan of Trump as a preferred candidate for me but I applaud him for one thing. He has made himself a Lightning Rod of Truth with respect to the clear dangers illegals present us with. He is focusing the rage of millions and millions of Americans who don’t give a crap about establishment plans for amnesty in a bid to get more “latino/Hispanic” voters.

To the extent he keeps focusing that anger and rage and forces RINOs, Big Bidness, and Democrats’ duplicity on giving these criminals citizenship out into the open (that’s their goal)is a very good thing, indeed.

Further, the more he keeps it up, he allows us to really see what a lot of these candidates think is even better.

‘Irrational’ Trump Has Destroyed GOP Establishment’s Amnesty Plan

A minor setback.. Corralling America.. as Mexican officials have said "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."

That was the response when the Kennedy-McCain "Gang of Eight" lost the amnesty goal a few years ago. The corrupt government of Mexico and it's American ruling class partners will just keep trying. Ho hum.

prior to the 1980s

There were Mexican government efforts to

But nothing in the former like today.

1980s Legal immigration

Under President Salinas

Mexico's

became very active in the U.S.

By 1990 Mexican policy had

1996 LA Times article

1990s legal immigration

Mexico wanted Mexican-Americans to

President Ernesto Zedillo (1990s) spoke to Mexican-American politicians telling them

1995 NY Times article

1980s Illegal immigration

The Immigration Control and Reform Act (IRCA) in 1986

Mexican Policy & Émigré Communities in the U.S.

And then there is the emergence of hometown philanthropic clubs that sends multi-billions of dollars to Mexican communities saving all levels of the corrupt Mexican government from having to depart with a peso to help its citizens. A better term is

Meanwhile if that money remained in the hands of the ILLEGAL aliens (undocumented workers) would they need taxpayer support for food, housing, healthcare, education, and all other transfer payments that states and communities provide them?

IMO it's the way the corrupt government of Mexico "taxes" its citizens in its "Nation without borders."

So yes, undocumented workers do pay taxes.

Federations give Mexicans voices

Immigrant Mexican philanthropic groups turn toward politics

Amnesty: it’s not just a south-of-the-border problem.

Pretty much very other nation in the world puts its self-interest at the forefront of what it does (with the exception possibly of some European socialist countries who are committing slow national suicide in the manner we are embarking upon). We’ve been continuously told that acting in the interest of the US is selfish and somehow immoral. Many, many people have embraced this guilt and bought into this. Trump’s rhetoric is just pointing out the absurdity of this self-destructive approach to the world.

——with whom conservative activists could register their amorphous rage. ——

what a great phrase........ right on target.

The conservative rage is amorphous, without form, without substance, nebulous, un effective, and finally, trivial as a force. In America where diversity is the rule, conservatives comply by diverse positions on a few issues that prevent the formation of a comprehensive way forward.

Conservatives accept Obama because being diverse they are unable to summon the courage and wherewith all to set aside their own narrow positions to join a wider view that can end the problem.

Trump is ignoring the conservative diversity as trivial and charging ahead
