Question is if we are all heroes what are the likes of Audie Murphy and any other MOH winners!!!

Heroes among heroes? Every Medal of Honor recipient I've ever seen on history shows always downplay their actions, or say that they wear the medal for the others in their unit who didn't survive. If men like that can consider their comrades heroes as well then who am I to disagree?

Your premise is simply wrong. If it was right every person who served in the military would have a silver or bronze star or the Navy cross.

All of our military deserve respect for service to their country. It does not make them war heroes.

Vietnam was another democrat war fiasco.

The Rats have effectively fooled the masses into making Vietnam. Nixon's war.

Do you honestly believe that wearing a medal is the only sign of a military hero? Really?

But let's go with your comment that serving in the military is at least worthy of respect. Where is the respect in Trump's comment?

The country is in such a mess that none of this is going to stick on Trump.

“As I remember part of the reasoning boiled down to Dean Acheson’s Domino Theory and that was proved BS.”

The “falling domino” illustration was used by Dwight Eisenhower in a 1954 press conference. It helps to keep in mind that the very bloody Korean War fighting had ended less than one year earlier and that that entire region of Asia was under pressure from the Soviets and Mao’s China.

“Q. Robert Richards, Copley Press: Mr. President, would you mind commenting on the strategic importance of Indochina to the free world? I think there has been, across the country, some lack of understanding on just what it means to us.

THE PRESIDENT. You have, of course, both the specific and the general when you talk about such things.

First of all, you have the specific value of a locality in its production of materials that the world needs.

Then you have the possibility that many human beings pass under a dictatorship that is inimical to the free world.

Finally, you have broader considerations that might follow what you would call the “falling domino” principle. You have a row of dominoes set up, you knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is the certainty that it will go over very quickly. So you could have a beginning of a disintegration that would have the most profound influences.

Now, with respect to the first one, two of the items from this particular area that the world uses are tin and tungsten. They are very important. There are others, of course, the rubber plantations and so on.

Then with respect to more people passing under this domination, Asia, after all, has already lost some 450 million of its peoples to the Communist dictatorship, and we simply can’t afford greater losses.

But when we come to the possible sequence of events, the loss of Indochina, of Burma, of Thailand, of the Peninsula, and Indonesia following, now you begin to talk about areas that not only multiply the disadvantages that you would suffer through loss of materials, sources of materials, but now you are talking really about millions and millions and millions of people.

Finally, the geographical position achieved thereby does many things. It turns the so-called island defensive chain of Japan, Formosa, of the Philippines and to the southward; it moves in to threaten Australia and New Zealand.

It takes away, in its economic aspects, that region that Japan must have as a trading area or Japan, in turn, will have only one place in the world to go—that is, toward the Communist areas in order to live.

So, the possible consequences of the loss are just incalculable to the free world. “

The same media that praised the kids who went to Canada illegally, now trashes Trump for doing something that was perfectly legal.

All of a sudden, representing our nation in Vietnam was honorable service. I haven’t seen that card played in 50 years.

I have to say that I actually respect the intelligence of anyone older than me that found a creative way to avoid being canon fodder for Johnson.

Learning about what a complete ClusterF#$$$% in the manner the political class ran that war, I would agree.

Despite the military actually beating the snot outta of Viet Cong in every major battle(yes even the Tet Offense)Johnson, with his "escalation" of the war, never intended to win that war.

But the vast majority of draft dodgers did it because they were cowards or were Communist Symts.

They stopped the draft for Vietnam a month before my 18th birthday.

They started the lottery system approx. 10 months after I had enlisted. My dad received my lottery number in the mail and I would never have gotten drafted.

As a vet, I could care less about Trump's draft deferment.

As a side note, I'm still waiting for Kerry's full disclosure on his military medical records as well as why his DD-214 was issued by president carter.......

I think it's becoming an issue because of what Trump said about McCain

I'll say the same thing about McCain and worse and I AM A VET!

Sorry but McClaim no longer gets a pass because of his military service........That ticket was punched out to the max back in 2008.

McClaim is a useless dinosaur who has spent a lifetime in the U.S. Senate posing as Republican and amassing a fortune in addition to his wife's and should have been voted out of Arizona years ago........

You can support McClaim all you want and I'm sure you have your reasons. But the reality is, Trump is right and McClaim is now an irrelevant democrat who should be running on their ticket. Either that, or voted out in Arizona.......

It's probably best not to criticize those who served about their service when you took pains to make sure you wouldn't be one of them.

I respect those who served, However, their actions since them are far from sacrosanct.

As for deferments, anyone who went to college got one. Some managed to milk those by changing majors, etc. and getting a 4-year degree in 6 or 7 years. That took money, either through scholarships, work, or mommy and daddy, and a minimum of study (albeit often in fields which were less challenging than hard science or engineering). If you had the opportunity to go to college and the desire (and ability), you went. Those opportunities were generally perishable, and it didn't mean you were there to avoid the draft, but to get an education. A lot of us were 1-H and didn't get called in for a physical.

Funny how the liberals made an issue of that, calling it a 'rich man's war' because poor folks couldn't afford the tuition and get a college deferment, but at the same time the liberals were all over the colleges causing trouble.

Would you ever dream of making disparaging comments about anyone who did serve, even McCain, and who went to war, even McCain, and who was shot down and spent time as a POW?

Let me put it this way. If McCain hadn't served, if he hadn't been shot down, if he hadn't been a POW, I would have no respect for him at all. At this point in his career, he has overdrawn the respect he banked in those days with his actions since.

Jeb had a student draft deferment and he considered becoming a conscientious objector.

I have no problem with Trash’s deferments, but the hypocrisy of his comments re McCain disqualify him in my eyes. Punk. No wonder he’s such good buddies with Hitlery.
