Donald Trump’s Follow Up to Previous Statement About Sen. John McCain
Young Conservatives ^ | 07/18/2015 | John S. Roberts

Posted on 07/18/2015 5:35:31 PM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

Earlier, 2016 presidential contender Donald Trump made a very ignorant statement about senator and Vietnam POW John McCain that may have greatly hurt his chances at the White House.

Trump said he favors “people that weren’t captured” in war.

Here’s the Donald’s follow up…

d

There’s no doubt that McCain is a Republican in name only, but I feel Trump lost a good portion of potential voters by disparaging a member of our armed forces.

Donald can say he is “fighting for our Veterans,” and I’m sure he supports them now and would as president also, but this may be hard to walk back.

Thoughts?

Trump speaks hard truth about McCain

McCain uses his POW experience as a political shield against criticism of his failures and weaknesses if which there are many

Name one other of our POWs who used their experience for personal gain

Just one

Men, few people heard it, fewer yet understood or cared, and half are Democrats. No group is more supportive of military heroes than veterans, and they wouldn’t piss on McCainif HE was on fire.

I don’t think this changes the minds of any Trump fans.
It’s just a made to order media circus event to occupy us while the world burns.

donald trump is a pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-ACA liberal democrat.

he also has the mouth discipline of a three year old girl.

all real republicans reject his candidacy. people on this site sometimes toss around the word “RINO” rather mindlessly. donald trump is a real one; a real RINO.

It is so refreshing to hear someone say what all conservatives have been thinking for a very...very...long time. I wasn’t a Trump supporter, but I am listening more than ever before. I DO love “Guts” in a man. Old “Blood and Guts” is a good example.

Sorry Sir, but you are a Hero.

You didn’t come back to America, and try and damage her.

Thank you for your service!

Yes! I remember the week John McCain was released from captivity. We were at the NCAA (Div II) Swimming and Diving Championships in the shit-hole that is now Detroit.. it was March of 1973.

Yes, he endured captivity and maybe a hero for going through that... but that is ancient history. He has been nothing but a Progressive in Republican Clothing. That is the here and now.

The proof is in McCains political record regarding restoring trade with Vietnam before ALL our men were brought home or accounted for

People (vets and family members) advocating for the U.S. to bring home all the bodies and resolve all the MIAs before giving Vietnam what it wanted were treated with the most condescending rage by McCain who could not WAIT for a chance to get a photo op hugging his former Vietnamese jailer

He called them “crazies” too, back then.... just like he called Trump and even his own constituents who want controlled borders

There is hard evidence for all of this. Simply go back and do your own research

I feel Trump lost a good portion of potential voters by disparaging a member of our armed forces.

Lee Harvey Oswald was a member of our armed forces. So were Soviet spy John A. Walker and Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan.

It’s well know McCain was and still IS a plant. His recent actions tell the tale.

And I’m a vet who thinks this jackass deserves what he has coming to him.

NBC led the evening news with Trumps remarks tonight. There is another soldier dead from the Chattanooga terrorist attack and Trump making a flub remark is the LEAD story! Trump is awesome, I will take him flubs and all. Trump/Cruze or Cruz/Trump !

McCain is a blowhard, backstabbing jacka$$. He has earned the enmity of conservatives. His service to this country is irrelevant at this point.

Donald Trump: McCain’s a War Hero Because He Was Captured, ‘I Like People That Weren’t’ (VIDEO)

Donald Trump took a few shots at Senator John McCain at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.

Trump has been feuding with McCain after McCain said Trump is firing up the crazies with his outlandish rhetoric.

Today Trump let him have it.

YouTube

Mediaite reported:

At one point, he said he supported McCain in 2008, but doesn’t like him very much now. Luntz pointed out that McCain’s a war hero, and that’s when Trump said this:

“He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Donald Trump continued his attacks on Twitter:

In addition to doing a lousy job in taking care of our Vets, John McCain let us down by losing to Barack Obama in his run for President!

  — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2015

Captured or not, all our soldiers are heroes!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 20157

McCain has failed:

....John McCain has failed miserably to fix the situation and to make it possible for Veterans to successfully manage their lives.

 — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2015

All he does is talk, talk, talk…

All he does is go on television is talk, talk, talk, but incapable of doing anything.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 18, 2015

You don’t get it. The reason Trump is resonating is because he has all the right enemies, the RINO politicians who have betrayed their conservative base time and time again.

I don’t even care if Trump is lying at this point. All I care about is that the RINO establishment gets gutted and aren’t able to dictate another RINO candidate.

“There’s no doubt that McCain is a Republican in name only, but I feel Trump lost a good portion of potential voters by disparaging a member of our armed forces.”

Well, time will tell, but for me Trump was right on. McCain has sullied his service as a Navy pilot by any number of disgraceful subsequent actions. He ditched his sick first wife for a wealthy “beer heiress.” His involvement in the Savings and Loan Scandal, was a close call and there are those who say that he was guilty. His “maverick” behavior as a Senator has been shameful. The idea of him as president send chills down my spine, so count me as one who thinks it was high time to call McCain out. Its time to call a spade a spade and let the chips fall where they may. Collectively, the whole bunch in DC, with few exceptions, is a pileish hit.

“Thoughts?”

Totally disagree. His clarification remarks were very thoughtful, and if anything, the cumulative effect of all of this will be a net positive for him. If anything, there could be a small negative blip as the media try to pump up the importance of this supposed ‘gaffe’, but when his full remarks become public (which I’m confident they will) this will likely wind up winning him more supporters. Just my humble opinion - as someone who is not a big Trump supporter.
